Perfect location
Was perfect for our stay

Great location in Matera. Well appointed and spacious rooms. Nice breakfasts.
The Hotel required that we exited and entered via a ‘rear’ entrance which involved a fair number of steps ie you could access the lift. Not a big deal for us but just to mention.

Location, and great experience staying in a cave

Perfect, central location in a quiet square and right next to the "Sassi" area
Absolutely disappointing. The front desk is only open till 10pm, and they charge you a fee for "late" check-in. Breakfast is incredibly limited in options and poor quality. Staff is clearly inexperienced and inadequate to the service level expected. On top of that, many many small details show carelessness and negligence: loose safe box, finished candle jars with no matches, empty fridge, no bathroom tissues, slippery bathtub floor, etc. Only the room rate was in line with what you'd expect for a suite in a 4* hotel, i.e. expensive but unfortunately not justified at all.
