This charming seven‑bedroom hotel is quietly situated in an ideal central location, just steps from the main attractions and great restaurants. Being on the same level as the historic centre, it avoids too many steep climbs — a welcome advantage in 40‑degree heat.
We were offered two exceptionally spacious rooms: one a traditional cave, the other with a shared balcony overlooking the city. Breakfast was served each morning on a tray and included diced fruits, mini pastries, yoghurt, a soft bun with creams, and a meat‑and‑cheese roll. The owner served this generous selection in the old stable within the cave and kindly shared some of the property’s history.
Access to the hotel was straightforward, as was parking. We walked from the parking garage with our suitcases, and the route took no more than ten minutes. A shuttle service is also available. The parking area is easy to locate and sits outside the ZTL.
The owners and staff were consistently warm, friendly, and welcoming.

It is a treat to stay in such a beautifully maintained cave home traditional to the Sassi of Matera. The property is just below the Cathedral and gets the evening sun which is wonderful. The property is still owned by the family of Pietro Laureano who was instrumental in getting UNESCO to recognise the remarkable architecture, location and history of Matera.
Only little things there are no glasses (although that might be to avoid accidents on the hard floor) and a rather annoying flashing motion sensor we had to cover.

Localização excelente, fácil de chegar a pé com as malas. Lugar muito bonito e interessante, com rica história. Cama e chuveiro bons e confortáveis. Café da manhã saboroso. Vista linda da cidade e Sassi.
Ficamos no quarto que tinha vista da cidade, mas o ar condicionado era muito ruim e não dava conta do calor que fazia no quarto devido ao sol forte. Mesmo durante a noite. O ar condicionado simplesmente não era bom o suficiente. Escolham o quarto da caverna, que é mais fresco. Alem disso, depois do check-out, os funcionários foram rudes e não permitiram que deixássemos nossas malas no local enquanto terminávamos nosso passeio - alegaram que era devido a uma festa na cidade e um feriado, mas não entendemos a relação entre isso e o fato de não podermos deixar nossas malas no local. Procurem também um hotel que tenha algum convênio com algum estacionamento pago, e que ofereça transporte até o hotel, se tiverem malas pesadas (felizmente não foi o nosso caso).
