Dissapointing level of maintenance deficiencies, including some safety issues and a level of host indifference to guests
Comfortable beds and efficient A/C
Convenient for airport
Reasonable amount of space for a large group
Nice pool
We experienced a number of issues throughout our stay, beginning with difficulties obtaining basic information and access on arrival, followed by several maintenance and safety problems at the property, and ending with the cleaners arriving before the stated checkout time and putting us under considerable pressure to leave.
A. Poor communication and difficulties on arrival
Communication with the host was consistently slow and, in some instances, there was no response at all.
On 27 July, 11 days before our arrival, I contacted the host through the Booking.com messaging system to request an early check-in, as my granddaughter needed to sleep after lunch on the day of our arrival. I sent a further message on 28 July and subsequently made a request through the Booking.com check-in facility on 4 August. I followed this up with another message on 6 August.
I did not receive a response to these requests until 7:37am on 7 August, the day of our arrival stating that if we did arrive early that the cleaners would still be there.
The Booking.com listing also stated that ‘the host’ would meet guests on arrival and that a €300 cash deposit would be required. I contacted the host on 7 August to ask about the €300 deposit but received no response.
Our bus transfer from Toledo was delayed and we arrived at the property at approximately 14:19, but there was nobody there to meet us and we had received no instructions regarding how to access the property. I had to telephone the host, three times before she answered.
This was particularly difficult because we were waiting outside the property with small children in the August heat.
The stated check-in time on Booking.com was 14:00–22:00, and we arrived at 14:19. When I eventually spoke to the host, she provided the code for the key box. It became apparent that she had been relying on the cleaners to let us into the property, but they had already left.
