Hotel Riu Palace Tres Islas

The staff were fantastic, really helpful, and they always seemed happy whenever I made the effort to speak Spanish with them. The location is excellent too, just a short walk from Corralejo's beautiful beach and the sand dunes. The hotel has great amenities, including two pools and on-site parking, which made things really convenient. The food was very good with a great variety to choose from at every meal. The hotel and rooms were spotlessly clean throughout our stay. As a lovely personal touch, I also received a birthday present from the hotel, which was a really nice surprise.

While the hotel is showing its age in places, it's clearly well maintained despite this. One frustration was the sun lounger situation, some guests were reserving them with towels early on and then not using them for hours, which made it hard to find a spot by the pool. In our room, the toilet had a leak and the ceiling fan didn't work. The sauna was also out of order during our stay, which was a shame as it's something we'd been looking forward to using.

The food was excellent. Exceeded my expectations for a large hotel. A huge amount of choice at every meal. Lots of food cooked fresh at open cooking stations. Service in the dining room for drinks and clearing was good. Staff were friendly and helpful. The swimming pools were lovely, very clean and big. One warm and one cool.

1. I had booked 2 single rooms : one for me and one for 16 year old son. I did not know that this meant you get a small, tired, dingy room with no balcony and a view of the carpark! My son was to be spending some time in room to revise for exams. there was not really space for that. I had to pay an extra 600 euros to get us each a decent, normal room. 2. If you are on a half board tariff, you have to pay 26 euros per room to use the safe for a week. I have never come across this in a 4 star hotel.
