It's a quirky place, with lots of plants and fish tanks. Each room has a different theme; I'm not sure what ours was called, but it was big, with a separate work space with a desk and also a separate tea space, with cushions and a low table. It was all very clean, the bed was comfortable, and the air conditioning worked well and quietly. Our room was in the back, so the traffic noise wasn't a problem. The breakfasts are set menus; you choose yours each day for the next morning, so they're freshly prepared for the time you order them for.
A minor problem was that it was hard to set the shower to the right temperature. The hot water rather trickled, and then when I tred to make it a bit cooler, it went over to cold. In other words, it's hard to get a medium warm temperature. For us this wasn't a problem because it was very hot weather, but if you visit at a colder time of year, it might be a problem. Also, there was a ceiling light that was motion-sensitive near the door. It's a good idea, but the problem was that it also went on if you had to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. We asked for them to turn it off after the first night and they came right away with a very low-tech fix: taping a paper over it so it wouldn't detect movement!

What an absolute gem of a place to stay in Shymkent, I'm so glad I booked it. The hostess was very friendly and welcoming, and the location is in a nice, leafy suburb not far from the centre of town. My room was absolutely fantastic, and as well as a bedroom and bathroom, also had a separate kitchen/dining area, and even a separate little study area. Each room is individual and highly unique. The soundproofing was fantastic, the walls being very solid, which guaranteed utmost peace and quiet in my room. The breakfast was also something else, with different types to choose from each morning and top-quality restaurant standards! I particularly appreciated the hostess arranging a taxi to take me to Turkistan and back for the day at a very reasonable price, to visit the Mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi and newly-built Karavan Saray complex. All in all, a fantastic stay in Shymkent, thank you for having me!
