Excellent location. About 5 min subway ride from Kyoto station and 4min walk to subways and buses. 3min walk to nishiki market. Ton of restaurants walking distance. Hotel is very clean, rooms are spacious and bathrooms are modern and new. Hotel staff are very courteous, speak ver well English and go out of their way answer questions on tourist attractions, restaurants and sites to visit. Loved our stay and will definitely come back.

High spec, clean rooms. Great location. Staff were very helpful and friendly and spoke good English.

Breakfast is basically an airline tray of food (likely made elsewhere) and is identical each day. The coffee is not drinkable. We had a major problem with one of our rooms on the first night that made the room unusable until the problem was rectified, and no compensation was offered.

The hotel is conveniently located close to very happening street near the bus stops and Daimaru department store. Hotel itself is very clean and the room is spacious, and the front desk is very helpful. There's only one thing the guests need to be aware of, the bathroom of family suite is located in the lower level of the room and the stairs might be little bit steep for older people, that's something to consider if you are traveling with seniors.

Exceptional service at a small boutique hotel. Exceptionally clean, and convenient. Excellent toiletries, with restock of everything on a daily basis. Comfortable beds. Refined and attentive service. There is both coffee and tea in room as well as in lobby, as well as cookies in the lobby. Well located - walking distance to subway and buses and two quick subway stations away from Kyoto train station.

I highly recommend Kyoto Shijo Takakura. Location is fantastic with many restaurants nearby. It’s a few mins away from Shijo train station and buses as well as an easy walk to Gion and Nishiki market. Our room was spacious and had great amenities. I can’t say enough about the staff - so friendly and helpful, we absolutely loved our stay.

My husband and I had a fantastic stay at the Grandereverie Hotel!
Very clean, modern, comfortable, large rooms, very comfortable bed, nice big shower, loved the bath tub soak packet - wonderful touch!
Having stayed all over Japan in all different hotels, we were so happy with comfortable beds that weren't so stiff on your back. Thank you sooo much
The location is PRIME. Wonderful restaurants and cocktail bars around that were filled with locals and not filled with tourists. Shopping is just a block away, we walked everywhere and it was super easy from this location.
Also there is a train station right around the corner which made going to shrines, temples, bamboo forest, etc so easy.
Last but not least, we had a very wonderful stay due to our hotel staff. Flora and Kieko, they went out of they way to help us.
I was looking for local Japanese designers for street wear and (I forget which one but she was from HK and then spoken English so well and fluent in Japanese, super impressive lady) she went out of her way to research and give us suggestions. And she wants successful helping us out!!
Loved our stay and recommend to everyone we know who's heading to Kyoto to stay here!

Very modern and in looks room and attitude. Young staff but fully professional and strictly adhered to our wishes . Fantastic bathtub with lovely products. Best hotel bathroom ever . Breakfast in room at any time which was highly convenient . Walking distance to many sites and excellent shopping and markets nearby . 3 minute walk to tube station only 2 stops from Kyoto station. I love boutique hotels and this one was safe and perfect with so many choices of restaurant for dinner within minutes . Staff accurately helped with directions . We would stay here always in Kyoto but it small so we keep it a secret!!!

Kyoto Takakura hotel is the gold standard of hospitality, service and professionalism. The front desk staff were kind, welcoming and provided so much care during our stay. They greeted us with iced sweetened matcha tea and even provided a small juice cup for my toddler. The room, especially bath/soaking tub, were above our expectations and we still can’t find coffee as good as Inoda’s that was provided in our room. The room was large and had We will definitely return to this hotel in our future Japan travels!

This was our favorite property that we stayed at in Japan. Located on a quiet street with many cafes, it is just steps away to a busy shopping district with lots to see and do. The staff went above and beyond - knew all of our names, assisted us with travel, printed out maps of places we might want to go, ordered pizza for us over the phone, and walked a block with us to help us get a cab. Really great rooms and gorgeous bathrooms to boot. We were sad to leave!

Beautiful boutique hotel close to subway station and Nishiki market and other wonderful things in downtown Kyoto. Staff is magnificent. Breakfast is taken to your room everyday at the time you choose. We had a family suite with 3 very comfortable large twin beds, a huge bathroom and small private garden for just us. I highly recommend this hotel.

This was the best hotel we ended up staying during our 2 week trip to Japan. It's a small hotel with, I think, 8 rooms. Because of it's size, you feel more like a bed and breakfast type stay (in a good way). It's a very clean, modern hotel, in a good location (if 20min,at most, walk is too far, there is a bus and metro station right next to it). The breakfast was included in my stay but unlike other hotels with buffet here we were brought trays with the breakfast items to the room (you just have to specify what time). In a way I liked this, more elegant and completely satisfactory when it comes to amount of food (in a buffet types you end up around all the people around you pigging out and everything on the menu...).
But the best aspect of this hotel was how nice and helpful the people were at the reception. Every time I needed some help with directions, advice or anything, they went above and beyond to make sure we got all the help we needed. Perfect. Highly recommend.

We had an absolutely exceptional 5-night stay at the Shijo Takakura hotel and I cannot recommend it highly enough.
Firstly, the staff are just incredible! It is very rare to see staff go to such efforts to make their visitors' stay as good as possible. All staff spoke fantastic English, were so friendly and went above and beyond with any request. They provided presents for our 2 children on arrival and were a source of amazing advice in relation to travel plans, restaurant reservations/suggestions etc.
The room was just brilliant - it was huge by Japanese standards and had the best bathroom of any hotel I have ever stayed in. A delightful breakfast was brought to the room each morning (my 4 year-old son looked forward every morning to the staff member bringing up the food because they were so fun). The wifi was great and the supplied pajamas were so comfortable my wife purchased a pair.
The hotel is in a sensational location - it is an easy walk to the middle of Kyoto and to Gion and is very close to 2 subway lines. We walked to Kiyomizu (the temple on the mountain) which took about 20-30min and was a lovely walk. There are an abundance of good restaurants around the hotel - one of our favorites was Hari which is literally next door.
I honestly cannot recommend this hotel highly enough and we cannot wait to stay there again. It is an absolute gem in the heart of Kyoto.

I absolutely loved this hotel and I didn’t want to leave. It’s beautiful, the room was huge especially by Japan standards, and the staff was super helpful. Decent walk from main Kyoto train station but there’s a smaller station close by. We were able to walk or take transit all over Kyoto, and loved returning to the little sanctuary that this hotel is. Highly recommend- we stayed in four hotels in Japan and this was by far my favorite

Very nice and modern hotel in fantastic area of Kyoto, close to many restaurants and shopping street.
Staff very polite and speaking very well English, not so common in Japan. They left a nice flower gift for my girlfriend’s birthday, really appreciated.
Room spacious and clean.
Pleasant outdoor sitting area in front of hotel.

First mention goes to the staff of the Hotel that has been the most helpful, kind and wonderful ever. Kudus to all the people working in the hotel making it a great experience for every guest.
As for the hotel it's very pretty and in a wonderful area, easy to reach and easy to move around from. Most sightseeing place in Kyoto are in walking distance and night life is just outside the door.
Our suite was great and had a marvellous bathroom with garden, and whomever has been to Japan already know the joys of Ofuro. All in all a very positive experience and a place anyone can book with confidence.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. They organized dinner for us on the two nights we were in Kyoto. The location is central and walking distance to many of the attractions in Kyoto. It’s a small boutique hotel so it doesn’t have a bar or restaurant, but these are all close by so we didn’t miss them. We really enjoyed our stay here.

We are so glad that we had found this hidden gem - It is a wonderful little boutique hotel with lots of restaurants close by and just minutes away from the main shopping street and the exciting Nishiki Market. We stayed at the Deluxe Twin Room which are spacious, comfortable, and well-stocked with complimentary tea, coffee, and high quality locally-made toiletries. The shower and bath room is probably one of the best we have come across... The hotel staff are what made our stay extra special - Everyone was extremely attentive and helpful. They gave valuable tips, suggestions and directions on sight-seeing and restaurants; They provided maps with bus routes and points of interest for us and made our travel within Kyoto as painlessly as possible. You can buy the bus and bus+train passes directly at their front desk - The bus pass only costs 600 yens each and will allow unlimited bus access for a 24-hour period... Lastly, we have to give a big shout out and thank you to Takeshi san - He had looked after us since Day One. On our last morning, he even came back on his day-off to say goodbye; He had made numerous calls to find the best way to get to Kansai Airport and wanted to make sure the cab he arrange arrive on time. That kind of dedication and sincerity are seldom and extremely hard to come by in today's world - It is Japanese hospitality at its best. Meeting him and his staff was definitely the highlight of this trip.We recommend this speical place highly!!

The hotel was initially hrs to locate as it was not on google map. Actually if you can find Daimaru and the Louis Vuitton store on the Main Street, it is inside the side lane next to LV. Just walk about 300m into the lane and you will find the hotel on the right side amidst some quaint Japanese restaurants and houses. Though small only 16 rooms, it was brand new, only 3 months. Service was great, the staff identified guests by names. The manager or chief as they call him, Mr Sasaki, was very attentive and knew hospitality. Even gave us some warm packs as it started to snow a little the morning we were going out to the Golden Temple. He also pointed us to two very small and exquisite ramen stores within walking distance of the hotel. Hotel was walking distance from Nikishi Market, Shijo Subway Station and Daimaru. Room size was quite comfortable for two persons and two big luggage. Highly recommended!
