The location is good being in the heart of North Norfolk with good road links to all the prime bird watching sites. The nearby car park was fine and the price was ok, particularly since it included breakfast. The breakfast was excellent! Very enjoyable with a nice selection of hot food and great service. I was particularly pleased that breakfast started early which is important for bird watchers visiting the area who wish to make the most of the day in the area.
The hotel is tired. It is an old building which does bring character of course, but the furniture is old too and the paintwork shows its age. There were a couple of issues with the room. Firstly, it was cold. There is a heater, but it's tricky to judge heater settings in hotels and in this case the room was cold throughout. There was a certain amount of noise in the evening from outside as the hotel is on the main square but by bedtime it was quiet outside apart from an occasional loud car going past. Along with the cold, the other issue was the amount of light coming into the room. The bathroom door has to be kept closed at night as there are no blinds or curtain on the large window, so lots of light comes in. The curtain in the bedroom stops a lot of light, but the very large gap under the door lets in a surprising amount of light too. Consequently, the room isn't actually very dark. Oddly, the light in the hall outside kept going on and off which was a distraction given the amount of light coming in under that huge gap at the bottom of the door.

An historic inn in a central location
We were aware of the live music and it didn’t bother me but my wife wouldn’t stay again

Breakfast very nice sausages bacon etc. Big soft bath towels, lightweight but warm duvet thus a good sized room for the price. A decent real ale reasonably priced in the bar.
See photos of the bathroom - I had to use a supplied pallet wood homemade step to get into the bath.aAstuck down shower panel meant climbing into the bath to turn on the bath taps for a bath. A very slippy bath and useless mat for the shower which I meant a very precarious entry and exit from the bath, and an equally dangerous morning shower. Overall a sense that the room was in need of a makeover and good clean Some black out curtains (and actually covering and fitting the window) to block out the outside lights that stayed on all night in the passageway beside the hotel would have allowed for a better night's sleep after the bar closed and music ended after midnight. Overall a cheap bed for the night, with a decent breakfast, with a nice sunny side up fried egg even if the orange juice tasted like orange coloured water. I would stay again not in room 11 and not on a Friday or Saturday/Sunday night when there's loud "music"
