Because of the bed, the mattresses were separating all the time and there was always a big hole between them. And check-in was kind of confusing.

It was really modern and comfy on the inside, we were in the dorm and the beds were super comfy. The WiFi was fast and when I had an issue after checking out, the host was responsive and let me back into the property at short notice.
It’s not really near anything, you have to at least get one bus (usually two) to go anywhere.
We also saw no members of staff the whole time we were there. We arrived at 3.30pm and hadn’t received instructions on how to get into the building, meaning we were stood outside in the rain for half an hour trying to contact someone. Eventually this random fella came out of a door nearby and had our booking details on his phone, he just let us in the property then said nothing and left.
They also changed the entry code half way through and some residents didn’t receive it, leaving them knocking on the door at 4am (through no fault of their own).
There’s no lock on the dorm room (there is a locker though) which isn’t a massive deal in Japan but would be nice to have.
The whole place felt a bit lifeless and jarring, because on the shell it’s a really nice property, but just a bit eery and in a really quiet part of Kyoto.
