Room smelled awful, chunky stain of unknown pink substance on the one arm chair in room. Toilet handle broken, sink didn’t drain (may have been source of foul smell). Dirty bandaid on floor of bathroom and someone’s used press-on nails under bedside table.

Ample parking, the check in was smooth, and it was easy to find our room, but once we got in, we were hit in the face with what smelled like very stale cigarettes attempted to be covered by Febreze or something. It looked like it hasn't been updated since the 70s, the beds were springy and firm, the shower pressure was mid, and the rust stains on the sink looked like a poop smear. We also saw ants in the bathroom, and you had to hold the toilet handle down for 15 seconds to flush. The light switches were like old kitchen timers, and not all of them worked. Walls are not sound proof, so we awoke to the dulcet tones of a family cursing at their toddler to put his f***** shoes on at 6am. Continental breakfast was bare minimum expectation, and the boxed milk was sour. Grabbed a banana to-go just to get out of there.

Shower pressure was low. Pre-billing my debit card for an extra two days that weren't requested was very confusing and front desk wasn't sure what happened and couldn't explain it to me. Only to say it would work out after a few days. Which it did..but was a big inconvenience to me. So some of my money was tied up in a pending area needlessly.

I had a lovely stay at Howard Johnson's last night. The check-in process was quick and easy. The room was large and well furnished. My bed was humongous and comfortable, everything was very clean, and breakfast was adequate. Some parts of the hotel could use a bit of an update (carpeting, bathrooms, etc.) It's still in good condition, perfectly livable. Super bright white bed linens and towels made a positive impression. I found the iron and the hair dryer very useful. My favorite part however was the location. Howard Johnson is located very close to downtown Amherst, UMass, and shopping. Lots of popular stores, such as Marshalls, Staples, Target, Michaels, Dick's, etc. are a minute away. Among them are all the grocery places, fast food places, and other conveniences. Although the hotel is close to the main road, it was quiet, peaceful, and very restful. I enjoyed my stay very much. Thank you!

A decent value. When we arrived there was a dehumidifier running in the bathroom and the toilet was running for hours before stopping on its own. The room was appointed nicely and the bed was comfortable. The staff was welcoming and polite. It’s a three star facility at a three star price.

I get that they may have been understaffed for Christmas but in the week we stayed there not once did they come to clean the room or give us new towels or toilet paper, we had to go to the desk and ask for it. We did not leave a tip.

The staff was amazing. Could not have been any more helpful, professional, responsive, and kind. The building hallways and rooms were rather shabby. The lobby was fine and the breakfast was amazing.. Would definitely stay again.

I had the misfortune of staying at this hotel over a busy weekend in Amherst, and was shocked that any hotel chain would operate in such poor condition. Admittedly, it was difficult to differentiate between general wear or uncleanliness, but the grimly floors and carpet in the lobby, peeling wallpaper throughout, and water stained drip ceilings were enough to turn your stomach.

First room was uncleaned. Second room did not have a working television or phone. Bathroom fixtures were either filthy or stained beyond being cleaned. The ice maker was broken. Ceiling tiles were missing and stained in the halls. Cobb webs hanging from the light fixtures in room. Very unkept all around. Was not at all happy with this hotel.

Good to have had a place to rest my head for family weekend at one of the local colleges, but just barely met the bill. This is one TIRED hotel in desperate need of a refresh. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom clean, but fixtures were dated, AC not really adjustable, and location not appetizing. I would not stay here again unless there were no other choices.

This property was good and conveniently located. Not enough staff. I had asked for either a roll a way bed or pull out sofa bed when I made reservation. But when I got to the hotel I was told it was against the fire code to allow a roll a way bed in the room. Tight fit but made it work.

The property was very outdated and run down for the price. I paid over $200 a night, I was expecting something a little nicer. There was an awful musty smell that permeated the place. The rooms and furnishings were outdated (from the 80's is seemed) the sink was rusting out, the tub was peeling. The bed linens were yellowed. The breakfast was sub-par. Reservation was for 4, only three towels were made available. The lobby was hard to get to, you had to walk through a maze to find it ( through a set of stairs, a hallway, then another set of stairs, or through the elevator.) I opened the sliding door to air out the room, and the smell of skunky marijuana wafted in.

We stayed one night as this was the only hotel with availablity. Albeit the room was clean, it had a very strong smell of bleach. The beds were actually very comfortable but the room was very dated. For the price we paid, it was disappointing to have a bathroom that hadn’t been renovated in years…the sink was chipped in multiple places, the tub & tiles were mismatched & very old. The hallway smelled musty & needs a serious update. The reception was clean & the breakfast area seemed updated. The service was good at Checkin as we had booked a king bed & needed to change to add a roll in bed & they were able to switch to a room with 2 queen…perhaps had we been in the king room it would have been in a newer section???

Bed was terrible and caused me back pain. Dirty floors. toilet didn't flush right and made noice throughout the night. no water provided. no room service. I checked out early and left after one night of a 3 night reservation without refund. it was that bad.

Room 314, Toilet handle was literally hanging by a thread. Blood stain on white curtains. Cold water handle was installed incorrectly, meaning you turn it the opposite way to work. There were worn down black smudge marks in the white porcelain sink due to being so old. The hallways still smelled like old smoke and the English muffins were stale. Someone in abutting room was blasting TV at 1AM, had to turn up the heat to drown out the noise. I stayed 2 nights and all my keys were deactivated after 1 night. Location was great and considering I was only in the room 8 hours (7 of which I was sleeping) it was manageable but don’t be fooled, place is a dump. Staff very friendly.
