Location was good for exploring the local area. On first impression, a lovely country English pub. The chef, knowing we were staying, made a special effort to warn us that roasts sell out early on a Sunday and kindly offered to put portions aside for our later table booking which was much appreciated. Parking was easy and secure (despite not being on site, but directly behind the pub).
The lady who cooked breakfast for us was really friendly & obviously went to a lot of effort to provide a huge English for each of us (unfortuntely, we don't have big appetites, so much of it was left on the plate - but what we did eat was lovely). They also allowed us to check out but come back to use the toilet facilities before our journeys home - no complaints! Beautiful place if you like walking. Thank you
Not complaing.... but - The rooms are a bit dated, probably due to age of the building so not complaining. We had 2 rooms - one with bath/shower over & other with walk-in shower. Both chose not to use shower (we would have done if more than one night, but just all a bit dated. It was clean but shower curtain was grotty!). All of the staff were very friendly (bar one had a bit of an attitude, especially towards an obviously newer member of the team) - this was made very clear particularly upon check in. We felt sorry for the newer member of the team who obviously was just learning on the job - we've all been there, but no need for the attitude of the more experienced member of staff!
We would have preferred if we had been asked if we wanted a "full" english at breakfast; we were just presented with a huge plate of food (maybe most people like this, but half of it was wasted - we felt bad about this) - might be better to ask if people prefer a smaller portion (would have been happy to pay the same for half the food).
Hadn't appreciated it's a sports bar (again, our problem), so TV screens with football blaring in all corners of the bar!
There was a huge wasp nest outside (not the pub's problem, but the shop next door); we had at least 5 wasps in the bedroom overnight.
