This is a fun, funky place with a kind of post-punk aesthetic with a bougie make-over. The room was extremely clean, with a very comfortable bed, good water pressure, and piping hot water coming out of the shower almost immediately. I liked the attitude all the staff had - very genuinely service-oriented, but in a very casual, friendly way, and a little bit spunky - joking around with you as they answered your questions or took your order or whatever. This pattern of behavior was so consistent across the whole staff that I think it must be part of the training or maybe something they screen for when hiring. Anyway, it helped make the experience of staying there feel distinctive and special. I liked being able to walk out of my room and go down one floor to a terrific, high-end restaurant, or up a couple of floors to a pleasant rooftop bar.
There were not enough places to hang clothes and towels in the bathroom. While I loved staying there, it seemed a bit more expensive than the level of facilities and services warranted. There was no pool, for example, and the gym was pretty rudimentary. Some other basic services I usually expect at a hotel at this price point were not available. Wifi was really slow one of the days we stayed there, though it was fine on the other day. While there is a view looking towards the river, it isn't a particularly impressive view. Other hotels in the area offer better views. There is plentiful parking in the area, but the hotel seems to own most of it, even street parking in front of adjacent buildings. It seems a bit wrong to me for them to establish a sort of parking monopoly and charge $18 per day to park anywhere close to the hotel, when it is in the kind of location where parking is plentiful enough that it would normally be free. If they just made the parking free for people staying at the hotel I would feel a lot better about this place as a value proposition.

If you are looking for dark and edgy, this fits the bill. Room was painted black and the hotel sits on the edge of a hill. They do provide a lighted makeup mirror which is much needed. Shower was large.
Rooftop was advertised but closed. Be prepared to pay for parking at the hotel and everywhere in Asheville.
