Just of the motorway, quiet, nice room, excellent reception and staff
We called in late and staff were able to prepare a late meal despite kitchen just closing before we arrived.

The cottage was lovely, and the staff were friendly, relaxed and attentive. Our evening meal was delicious and very generous in size. Our large dog was welcomed in, and the whole experience felt more like a visit with friends.
Nothing, really. The owner made us a home cooked full English breakfast and the other visitors were lovely. There was loads of covered outdoor seating and the village is picture perfect.

The Plough is a lovely pub in a very quiet and pretty village, a very easy distance (by car) to Carlisle.
The room and bathroom were clean and the bed and pillows reasonably comfortable. The staff when we did see them were very friendly and helpful but they weren’t around much. It felt very much like we were on our own - but I’m not sure if that is a good thing!
When we arrived it was deserted and we couldn’t get through on the phone. We had to wait over an hour to check in. I didn’t recall any information about not being able to check in before 5pm.
For £286 for a two night stay, I would have expected slightly better amenities (shampoo/conditioner and more than 2x teabags), as well as slightly better communication.
The room itself was fine - but I don’t think worth £143/night. I also would have had to pay extra for breakfast - not very in keeping with a BnB but also for some reason there was no breakfast available. With nothing else in the village this was a disappointment and I was told it “might” be available the next morning and then I didn’t hear from the staff again.
