Hotel Tara Machapicchu sits near the top of the hill in Aguas Calientes (named after the nearby hot springs) and sometimes called Machapicchu (after a nearby mountain). The hotel enjoys a dramatic view of the river running through town and is comfortably distant from the hubbub of buses loading and unloading tourists, but very close to all the other amenities - shops, restaurants, and even a 2-hour laundry with reasonable rates.
Our room was clean, had a nice river view, and three roomy beds so we all slept soundly. The breakfast buffet was wonderful, and never before this trip to Peru have we had the pleasure of breakfast buffets that start so early in the morning (I suppose because many of the tours start early).
Everyone comes to Aguas Calientes to buy tickets to visit the ruins at Macha Picchu, but the way the Ministry of Culture works is you have to purchase your tickets in person, passports-in-hand, the day before you go, so seeing Macha Picchu is a 2-day commitment. If you buy them early like we did, in order to be sure of getting circuit 2, it only takes a half-hour or so, then you've got a free day to explore the town.
We enjoyed wandering around this lovely, walkable little town, full of alpaca and souvenir shops and many, many restaurants, and the Macha Picchu ruin was an AMAZING, bucket-list sort of experience!

Nice hotel with everything I needed for a comfortable stay. Breakfast had a variety of options and was tasty. The room was clean and spacious with a large bed. Nice hot shower with strong water pressure. Great location, close to the bus stop for Machu Picchu and options to eat.
Only troubles: there was construction going on right in front of the hotel, so if your room is facing that direction you will hear the noise during the day. Also the windows aren’t soundproof so you can hear everyone passing by, but okay at night since it’s not a busy street. The wifi is also very spotty and barely works in the room, worked better in the lobby.

Perfect spot for a couple of nights there.. staff super helpful, off course very minor things needs attention (they appreciated the feedback during stay) but in general all very good.
Location wise, a good walk uphill from the train station but nothing scary, close to reasonable places for dinner or massages (considering town its pricey in comparison to Cuzco).
