The hotel was full of excellent amenities, with the pool, water activities, bars, different food options. The location right next to the Montauk Ferry was great. The staff at the cafe, sugar shack and pool bar and dock bar were wonderful.However, by far the absolute BEST thing about Champlins were the shuttle service drivers. Rafael, Al and Ray were AMAZING hosts, going above and beyond to make give us recommendations, give us a little history and insight into fun activities and night spots and willingness to pick us up and drop us off as needed. They were the Champlins' CHAMPIONS!!!
Unfortunately, the front desk staff were lacking in customer service. Although they were accommodating at best, they were never enthusiastic to help us, much less go out of their way. The first night I asked the front desk for 1 or 2 extra towels since I use 2 for my hair and that would mean my husband would be getting a wet towel after his shower. This has never been an issue anywhere else. However, after some explanation about how the hotel was fully booked, etc., the front desk attendant affirmed she would definitely get me the extra towel(s) that night. Never heard from anyone. My husband kept using my wet towel. Aside from this, the food at the restaurant there, The Landing, was just OK. Not great, and although that staff was very friendly, they must have been short-staffed because it took a long time for food to come out.
