The room was well equipped and comfortable. There was a small kitchen available, heater worked great and breakfast was simple but very tasty. Staff was friendly and the location was great, near the subway and lots of restaurants. Room and bathroom were very clean as well as towels and bedding.

Nice and spacious room
I travel frequently and usually stay in established hotels in downtown Montreal. This time, I decided to try a boutique hotel in the Plateau, hoping for a more personal and welcoming experience. Unfortunately, my first impression was quite the opposite. I arrived around 2 pm and simply asked to check in. The gentleman handling reception immediately replied that check-in was at 3 pm. Fair enough — I had no issue waiting. What surprised me was the abrupt and unwelcoming manner in which this was communicated. When I remarked that the policy seemed rather strict, he responded that he did not appreciate my comment. He then became defensive, insisting that he had already explained the room was not ready and even referring to a colleague as a witness. An unnecessarily confrontational exchange over a perfectly routine hotel request. I would have expected a simple, courteous response along the lines of "Your room isn't ready yet, but we'll let you know as soon as it is." That is basic hospitality, regardless of the hotel's category. The room itself was spacious and pleasant, with a clean, although somewhat dated, bathroom. Surprisingly, there was no in-room safe, despite the hotel's four-star positioning. Reception initially indicated that one was available, before acknowledging that my room did not have one. Ultimately, the room was fine, but the reception experience fell well below expectations. A boutique hotel should distinguish itself through personal service and attention to guests, not the opposite. Hospitality is not simply about providing a room. It is about making guests feel welcome.

The bed was comfortable, the metro is nearby and the large windows let in lots of natural light.
The room and bathroom were very small and felt more like a hostel or student residence than a hotel. I had to move furniture to be able to open my suitcase on the floor. Breakfast was repetitive and lacked variety and the cooking facilities were limited in the room. The shower didn't drain properly, leaving water pooled around your ankles, while things in the drain reappeared in the basin. The fridge hummed constantly throughout the night, making it difficult to sleep. While most of the staff were lovely, my experience with the spa was disappointing. I had been looking forward to using it but was made to feel like a nuisance simply for asking how it worked, having never been before. There were clumps of hair floating in the pool water so I didn't stay long. I heard staff talking about me in French, apparently assuming I would not understand.
