Irene was a great hostess who maintains clean rooms and bathrooms and provides a good, simple breakfast. She was very accommodating with the different times we wanted to eat/depart in the morning for our adventures. She was happy to engage in conversation and took an interest in us without being pushy.
Note that the road between the gate and the house is a bit rough in places. Take it slow, especially if you have a low clearance vehicle.

Irene is so fun to talk to (and do jigsaw puzzles with!) normally if I'm on a solo trip I don't feel like talking but she's really interesting. I was the only person staying at the time so I got a customized breakfast. There are cats and chickens around and beautiful plants. The east side of the island might not be for everyone because it's rainy, but I loved hearing the sound of rain on the roof and the frogs. The wifi worked better than my Kona resort wifi the entire time! Also because this isn't spelled out here, I had my own dedicated bathroom.
If you're 1 person, be prepared to get out of/back in your car many times to deal with the gates. When I come back I will bring a friend so we can divide up the labor better. The area is so beautiful and untouristy it takes a little more navigation (and Google maps completely sent me the wrong way) but getting lost let me see more beautiful plants.

We had a very lovely stay with Irene. It was a wonderful first experience, and we truly enjoyed our time here. Irene was incredibly thoughtful and even prepared breakfast for us with fresh fruit picked from her own front and backyard, which made our stay feel extra special.
Before we left, she also gave us a small Hawaiian calendar as a sweet souvenir. Overall, we had a great experience and would definitely recommend this place to friends.
