The Lady who ran the homestay was fantastic, she let me take earlier than the check in time. I was in Hanoi over the Tet holiday period so not a lot was open, the lady cooked for me which was very kind and very delicious.
The stairs, but I think a lot of houses in Hanoi have the same.

A homestay is somewhere between a hotel and a hostel and in many ways can be better the either.
Cozy is a good description for this and unlike in a hostel, i had my own room with my own bathroom. It was quite a large room too and i had hot water from the shower
Best of all though was my host - Huyen. The first time I met her, she cooked me a wonderful meal and even after that gave me fruit and even on the days I’d eaten out, she always asked me if i was hungry when i arrived ‘home’ (it really was a home away from home. I would tell her that I’d already eaten but maybe she thought I was too skinny and a meal would be served.
I’m fairly easy going and for the ridiculously reasonable price of my stay, i found Huyen’s house far better than i’d had expected. It’s not luxurious but it’s homely and for me, that’s so much better.
Back now in Philippines (I’m actually from Ireland) I have happy memories and believe I have a new friend in Huyen as well as some of the interesting other guests I met there.
Cam on, Cozy Homestay.
Going up and down the stairs but i’m a reasonably fit 73 year old.
Also, while the location was good and felt very safe, finding it the first time took me a while but, for me that’s all part of the adventure.
