I like the location which is right on the water. The area is sparsely populated, and it is a gem of a location. If you are looking for a spa or pool, this is not the place. It is an older, vintage-style motel that has been resurrected to be as modern as can be for its age. We have stayed here before when we motorcycle over towards Canada, and we like it very much. It is a blast from the past, but the rooms are nice and quite spacious, with great views of the St. Croix river and the New Brunswick coastline, which is just across the way. It's 15 (or so) miles to Calais or Eastport for meals, but US Route 1 is a very good road, and it only takes a few minutes to get to either town. From Calais, you can cross over to Canada and into St. Stephen, New Brunswick for meals and sight-seeing, or onward to Saint John and Moncton, as well as Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia.
I hesitate to dislike anything about the Redclyffe because it does not pretend to be anything other than what it is. It's a resting place for travellers along the Bold Coast Highway of remote eastern coastal Maine. It's clean, and the operators are very nice. It's easy to check-in and out. First-timers may flinch upon entering the premises, but be assured the room will be clean and comfortable. For us motorcyclists, that's what we like. It's not going to be resort-like experience, but rather an oasis in the middle of nowhere.

Amazing waterfront view with a deck. spacious rooms.
the slider screen on the porch was off and wouldn’t close properly, to keep the bugs out. however we couldn’t leave the slider open at night.
