Hotel Cándido

The car charging situation is pretty good (22kW, Iberdrola-compatible), especially if you hook your car up when you check in so that it’s ready to be moved before you go to bed. The “rollaway” child bed was frankly better than a lot of the “real” beds we’ve encountered this trip. The stained-glass ceiling was gorgeous and made me wish I had time to sit in the lobby and read/relax under it.

The cleanliness of the bathroom and beds were fine, but the carpet in the room could use a shampooing (or replacing with something lower-maintenance)

Rooms were big, there was a pool & staff were overall nice. Breakfast was good. There was an amazing 'hole in the wall' Peruvian restaurant just across the road.

It didn't really feel like a family hotel - there were a lot of buses of older people on tours coming through and I don't think all of those people appreciated our young kids! The pool had the same vibe - so perhaps nicer if you're older, but as a family I'm not sure it was exactly what we were looking for. Also room service didn't start until 8pm which was challenging to get the kids in bed for an early night after a long drive!

Really nice hotel, but not much around it. (Hoever, an excellent value Peruvian resturant less than 5 mins walk away). However, easy to get a bus into the historic centre. Air con worked really well. Breakfast buffet was great. Nice rooms. Nice garden to sit in - especially when lit up at night. Really nice hotel.

Bar staff absent at times. Pool out of use which was a disappointment. Public areas not cleaned during our stay.

The room was nice and big. The pool area was large with a few deck chairs and umbrellas. There was also a few paddle courts. There were two sink basins in a very large bathroom. Also a bidet with a well functioning toilet. The patio was very big and had two chairs and a table outside.

The staff seemed very disinterested whenever we spoke to them. Be that in English or Spanish. One behind the bar was also a bit short with me and a little rude. They had not provided any irons or ironing boards in the room, and when I asked for one at reception they only gave an iron (and I had to iron on the coffee table in the room). I honestly expected so much more from the staff given that this is a 4 star hotel. The beds weren't secured together and kept moving in the night. The shower drain was blocked and would fill the shower basin within 5 minutes. The A/C in our room was very weak and would take a very long time to cool down the room (if at all). The lighting in the room was poor once the curtains were shut. We also had to shut the curtains to keep the heat from the sun out. The gym was half disused with piles of old yoga mats, randomly assorted weights, a half broken workout machine (that did most exercises on one machine) and some rickety cycling and running machines. The spa was closed which we were not made aware of. The pool had construction work going opposite it, which we were not made aware of. This made it feel we were being watched and could always hear talking and the machinery when in the pool.
