Staff were exceptional. We arrived late due to a delayed flight and missed dinner, but they ensured we had some fruit snacks and water for the night. The property is beautiful. The art around the property (indoors and outdoors) shows the love for the culture, country and people. Beautiful, well maintained garden and adjacent buildings. 100% worth a stay. Book a menu tasting experience with the famous chef.

Stayed here before - it is a wonderful place. However, mud came out of the bathroom taps rather than water. Also, the whole place seems to be a bit more tired than I remember it. They did change our reservation as our car broke down which was good

Roça São João dos Angolares is one of the best touristic accommodations in São Tomé. It’s one of the few renovated roças. The building has kept its charm, the view on the bay is great, the decoration is really charming and of good taste. The owners did a great job keeping the essence of this beautiful colonial building. And the food is very good too!
The bathroom could use a little renovation and the room is not the most comfortable I’ve had…but overall it was great, strongly recommend.

Staying overnight in an authentic Roça is a MUST. The place is filled with history and culture. The architecture takes you back to Colonial times. Rooms are awesome and beds are comfortable.
Staff barely talks to you or smiles. Not so friendly unlike other places in São Tomé. Lack of warmth and introduction to the place; it would be nice to be introduced to the Roça’s history and be taken on a quick walk-through upon check-in, but no. Was expecting a one-of-a-kind breakfast but nothing too exciting: no juice, egg selection (fried, scrambled, boiled) and you have to figure out how to get your own coffee ‘cause staff won’t explain that coffee table is right behind your back and you must figure it out for yourself. Dinner was good but with European prices. The place has GREAT potential and could do much better caring for their guests and providing a great service.
