We had a lovely and very relaxing stay at Aqua Blue. Bashir was an excellent host — always available to help, give advice and make sure we had everything we needed.
The hotel is in a quiet part of Arugam Bay, close to the beach, but still within easy walking distance of restaurants and bars for an evening drink.
We had an amazing safari during our stay and were lucky enough to see a leopard, elephants, water buffalo and lots of other wildlife. We even had an elephant wander close to the hotel, which was a brilliant experience.
Breakfast was another highlight and we especially enjoyed the shakshuka.
Overall, a peaceful, friendly place with a great host and a very good location. We really enjoyed our stay and would happily recommend Aqua Blue to anyone visiting Arugam Bay

The staff were very friendly and accommodating. We needed to change our reservation last minute from 3 to 2 days and they made it possible which was very nice from them. The breakfast is basic but nice. It feels boutiquy because of the friendliness of the staff. In terms of location, it's on the quiet side of Arugam bay so 10-15 mins walk from main restaurants.
The rooms are in need of an upgrade (which in fact is the case of most of the places we stayed at in Sri Lanka). Specifically they need to focus on health and safety - too many rusty metals in the room and the facilities and it's so easy to get a scratch. I would start with the door and toilet handles.

The hotel is close to the main town avenue and shops and it is also very close to the beach too.
