Beautiful 4-complex Niegel/Karen built with fantastic views and walkable to beaches/restaurants

This apartment had Great Bay views from the balcony and small views from the bedroom windows and even the shower room. So lovely! The bed was super comfortable and firm. The a/c worked great at night and that's mostly when we used it to sleep. The finishes in the 1 bdrm on the top 3rd floor that was not facing the cell phone tower about 30 yards away is where we stayed, and it had very nice finishes and tasteful linen throughout. I also appreciated that Karen left stuff that were not finished by earlier tenants and left them for us such as few snacks and drinks. When I came back with no butter from the store, she kindly provided me with a block for my breakfasts I cooked daily. Even 2 tablespoons of butter can be a relief to have since they only sold large amounts of butter at the store. There were 2 small markets, one larger and one smaller. We got decent cage-free eggs from the larger store ($4.50) and english muffins from the smaller store when the kind store keeper split the 12-pack in half for our purchase and even threw in an onion. I liked seeing blacks own many of the small businesses here like restaurants. There was a vibe here of contentment of living in in a close knit community. Nice to see! The house gets great easterly wind so it's not very warm and a/c doesn't need to be cranked up. Rain is rare on JVD, so guests are asked to conserve water including not running it for brushing teeth, washing dishes, or showering a long time or after peeing. Appreciated the posting reminder. With climate change, many areas of the world are experiencing weather problems. We enjoyed 2 days of unusual rain out of the 3 days we were there. If you enjoy exercise, the hilly walks of about 15 mins down to White Beach on one side and 12 mins walk to Great Harbour Bay will bring on a good appetite. Walk up to the house, add 10 to 15 mins. Coco Loco's on White Beach served a good pizza. Hagar sp?

No more space to write "likes" in that section, so will carry it over here: Picked up a very well made small wooden dog sculpture made by the elderly proprietor for Alibaba restaurant and gift shop. He and his 2-3 pals carve animal figures and they are very well done. The dog's tail will hang our son's eye glasses : ) We loved the way the gentleman and his wife hung out at their place in the evening, dozing off on a chair. We took photos of them and will post them on TripAdvisor. We enjoyed the only bakery on the Great Harbour main road (which is on the beach). I dropped my healthy habit and ate one of the best tasting donuts since Madonna said it was fried in oil and not shortening (transfat) Taxis were charging $5-$10 more for picking up at this house because it was on a more rough road that was not well paved and quite hilly for their vehicles. There are roaches on the trail down to Great Harbour Bay although none seen at the house. I couldn't believe I jumped on my husband's back and convinced him to take me back to the house while missing Foxy's live music on Fri night! The next night, determined to be more reasonable and wore closed shoes and insisted that we use no flashlight so that I couldn't see them as we were coming up to the house and talking loudly so I would not hear any crunching, LOL! Washer was not readily available for guests and only available at night since it was used for washing linens between guests. Niegel and Karen are so busy taking care of the logistics of running this 4-unit lovely complex, that I did not get a chance to even meet Niegel and saw Karen working on cleaning & prep. Apparently many people on the island who are trying to make it, work many hours since it's so expensive to live here. I wish I had known about Sandy Spit island earlier .. we ended up not going since the Dive Shop owner was tense and wanted too much.
