Loved the traditional townhouse style that we were in. We felt immediately calm after a long travel day just being in the house! The pyjama sets were an added bonus! Luggage storage was easy with the staff at check in and they had some products to sample for free as well.
The main issue for us was that it was a decently far distance from the main sites in Kyoto.
Beds and pillows weren’t comfortable. However those who stayed on the futon beds were aware of this potential going in.

Kitchenette fully stocked with sufficient plates, cutlery, glasses for all guests. Comfortable sleeping futons.
Low ceiling headboard -multiple bumping into it for tall people.
Bit tight for 6 adults, so removing the bulkier swing chair and replace with smaller footprint would give more room to sit/for luggage etc.
Overall a very satisfying and unique experience staying in a Machiya house.

Charming and quirky. Japanese courtyard and swing chair. Location great, quiet and felt safe. Walking distance to 7/11, Kyoto Station, some sights and transport. There was a Nespresso machine - but could not find anywhere to stock up on capsules...
Did not compare well to other townhouse rentals we had stayed at previously in terms of comfort and convenience eg no umbrellas or adaptors. No heating in bathroom. Downstairs kitchen and bathroom area was very, very cold in February's cold snap. Futon was way too thin, pillow too hard for Western taste. Would be great to have choice or alternative bedding on site. Advertised as three bedrooms - but it's a tatami room. The three of us we would have preferred to stay in three bedrooms but only two bedrooms were set up . The dining uphopstery is stained. The bedding seemed clean but had stains. Upon enquiring, we were offered a delivery and storage option of suitcases at the hotel for a fee. It would have been great to know about this option ahead of time.
