Top notch hotel located right on the water and very close to the old town. Food was excellent from the buffet dining to the in house restaurants. Reasonable prices as well.

Wir haben unwahrscheinlich schöne Tage im E&O verlebt - die Zimmer waren ausgezeichnet, der Service sehr zuvorkommend, freundlich und hilfsbereit. Auch die Lage des Hotels ist ausgezeichnet, um George Town zu erkunden.
Wahnsinnig schön war es, zu Beginn oder am Ende des Tages den Pool genießen zu können und den Tag dann in der Bar bei einem Cocktail ausklingen zu lassen. Wir würden jederzeit wieder in das E&O zurückkehren.
Jammern auf hohem Niveau: das Licht im Badezimmer könnte etwas heller sein.

Biggest bathrooms I have ever seen in a hotel
Very quiet
Not anyone’s fault but I got a vibe that this hotel suits for romantic getaways and people who like it quiet.
Pool are was so quiet that I was scared to unleash my kids there for a day or so, I let go on 2nd day and expected happened, some old snob asked my child to stay quiet and be considerate of others.
My view is not the best if you are visiting with young & loud kids.

目の前の海が汚いのが残念ですが、ホテルのせいではないので、仕方がないです。

Gorgeous large rooms, great infinity pool, staff were really helpful and the buffet was great. Location was great, and you are able to walk into town.
We stayed in one wing and our friends stayed in the other and it actually made it a bit difficult as we couldn't always access the same things. If you are going in a group I would encourage you to stay in the same wing.

Tot!!! No sabria per on començar, certament m'allargaria massa. Una meravella d'hotel d'època colonial. L'"heritage wing" amb vista al mar és del tot aconsellable. Val la pena fer un esforç i allotjar-se en aquestes habitacions.

Great location, great views from our room and the room itself was really spacious. Great breakfast and staff were lovely. Wasn’t in the city centre but we really enjoyed the walk and being on the waterfront is great with the cooler sea breeze. Pool area was nice and gym was a decent size.
I think given the seaside location alone would be enough of a reason for us to stay here again!
Wasn’t a 5 star hotel in my opinion, rooms were tired and not spotlessly clean, so not reflective of a full 5 star experience.
I read a review that the mattresses being hard which I dismissed but they really were extremely hard haha!
Also didn’t realise that it’s basically 2 hotels with 2 check-in areas; so this review reflects the Victory Annexe rooms - the heritage side may be of a higher standard?

Everything is perfect. The reception staff are very professional. The stay at the Heritage Wing will be a memorable one. I love the a la carte breakfast; it's better than the buffet breakfast.

Good position with expansive water frontage and views
Large hotel with good amenities including great pool areas.
Great sized clean and well serviced rooms with spacious bathrooms and great aircon - an obvious must given the heat and humidity
Extensively and authentically decorated in period style and the makings of a great landmark hotel
Extremely good food, particularly the breakfast buffet and excellently prepared cocktails
Great evening ‘club’ hour at Cornwallis was more than generously supplied with food and drinks
Like many large properties at the mercy of both the weather and the availability and quality of building workmanship and maintenance, there are lots of worn finishes and obvious need for increased plastering and painting
Maintenance issues also extend to garden areas where the sparse and often lackluster planting is at odds with the tropical style and location of the E&O
Some service was lacking like poolside where if you’d like a drink, you’ll have to go hunting for someone inside to rustle one up
The website gives a poor insight into the complexity of room sizes and styles and Receptiin seemed a little in the dark about rooms also. Our waterfront balcony room had a small wardrobe with one drawer and small drawer in the bedside table; our friends staying in similar sized room without balcony had a huge walk in robe. Without a floor plan to book from, you’ll not be sure what you’re getting until you check in
Transport arrangements inbound from the airport delayed but fixed by the Hotel locating an old minibus- for the two of us. Outbound saw an unexplained cancellation of our booked hotel car for two and after checking out, found they’d decided to give us another minibus - very good condition however would have requested one had it been needed. Management issues…

Reception welcome was disappointing. Slow checkin. No twin beds as booked on Booking.com.
Restaurants poor for breakfast, both buffet and Al a carte. Very slow, if at all in replenishing items, clearing plates. Poor experience in both.

Lite för stort vilket egentligen bara märktes i den stora buffet restaurangen där det också serverades frukost. Mycket personal dock så allt gick smidigt, men lite stimmigt överlag bara. Finns alternativ så no big thing really.

We had a spacious corner suite in the Victory Annexe - wow! It was absolutely sensational and our booking included access to both swimming pools, evening drinks & canapes in a choice of venues, and a choice of breakfast venues - but who could go past the fabulous Sarkies?
The bed was comfortable, balcony was a great place to sit and enjoy the views and the bathroom was 'to die for'.
We enjoyed walking around Georgetown especially seeing the street art and colonial buildings.
Can't think of anything negative to say - we loved our stay there.

The restaurant offering Senior discount should state in the signage it only applies to Malaysians and therefore it would make it clear to Seniors from Australia or other countries

Garden Suite in Heritage wing was great - quiet, with a shady lawn for the baby to play on right outside, and easy access to the pool. Also this hotel is very laid back, very authentic and true to its roots - much more so than Raffles Singapore, where we had been previously and which has had an expensivre makeover which has not helped its character.
The only thing I would say to this hotel is show some imagination on the food. A few years ago it used to serve peranakan food in Java Tree, now it's only so-so french-type food. If I wanted that, I'd go to France. Why the best and grandest hotel in Penang can't headline with a high end local food offering is a mystery to me. Their breakfast selection of local food was fine, BTW.

Breakfast and rooms were excellent. Laundry was too expensive. A bridge access to Georgetown would be great to avoid the busy street you need to cross.

Breakfast spread was good.
Room is very damp. The floor had patches of water esp in the bathroom entrance. I slipped and nearly fell right there! There was no table to dine on for room service as the only table was a desk and difficult for 2 people to sit and eat there. Only 1 armchair and it was v old! So my wife had to sit on the floor! The TV is too small, hard to see subtitles from.the bed. Quality of bedroom slippers was poor; doesn't fit the E&O branding.

Staying at the E&O always feels like a step back in time, to colonial days gone by. The grand lobby, the seasoned staff, and the view rooms are like returning to a place of quiet luxury. There’s a generous array of foods to choose from at breakfast, and the infinity pool provides a wonderful respite from the day’s activities. I like ordering the chicken satay and other dishes at the pool. If you have a chance, treat yourself to a massage in their spa for a nice serenity moment. The hotel is located an easy walk to cafes, restaurants, and shops in Georgetown. This visit marks our maybe sixth time staying here, and we will surely be back again.

The suite especially the bathroom was something special and memorable compared to usual hotel rooms. The room was well-appointed, very clean and comfortable. Staff were helpful, providing assistance when our safe didn't work. The international breakfast spread, infinity pool and spa were EXCELLENT.
Two pillows were provided per guest but I wish one of them was a firm pillow instead of two soft pillows, for better lumbar support while sleeping. The safe didn't work when we arrived but the staff quickly fixed the problem with a replacement of batteries. The TV display was grainy but of course we weren't there to watch TV so it wasn't a major issue.

not my first time in this hotel. love the breakfast spread. the suite room was always great and comfy.
arrived quite late around 8pm. it was drizzling. stopped my car right in front of the heritage wing's entrance so my old mom can quickly hop out first. saw couple of men in brown uniform just sitting around. I think they were potters but completely ignored me. i don't want to make a fuss so quickly took our own luggage from the car and carried them directly to the main hall on my own. returned to my car, finally one of the men approached me. first question i asked him, where should i park (the front area was practically empty at this time)? he responded to me as if i didnt deserve to park at heritage wing by asking me couple of times if i was aware that there are 2 parking areas & i should park at the other side unless my room is here. i said yes my room is here. then he kept on asking what is my room no. couple of times. i was at the verge of feeling very annoyed. in my mind, what happened to the usual E&O hospitality. and i said, i havent checked in but i need to park my car first and he kept asking what is my room no, as if he didnt believe me. finally he asked me to park at a spot. so i went to check in. upon checked in and i guess the man saw me coming out to get remaining stuffs from my car and i show him my room card. then only his behaviour changed and suddenly become so "hospitable". but i just said him to him, it's ok, i can handle my things on my own.
do you know what is the worst feeling ever? when you are a malaysian in a hotel in malaysia but on first impression, you were treated as if you did not belong to be in a certain place, maybe because you the way you look or something else. story of my life.
but definitely will come again to this hotel (especially the heritage wing). my mom loves the hotel very much and her favourite is always to enjoy the early breakfast at sarkies.

service is pathetic - we were confirmed interconnected room ( was travelling with wife 9m baby and nanny) and same was also confirmed at the time checkin by front desk as well - that our rooms are interconnected. however rooms were not interconnected. they were quite afar. when raised to front desk, they said they cannot do anything as all rooms are booked.
further, we were also confirmed cot - that was not there in booking info at front desk.
please call them and make sure that they are aware of your request and comply with that and not given any reason to not comply with what they already agree to.
