There are not many hotels that leave such good memories as this one. For a start, there is the intriguing architecture of Dorchester’s typically tranquil main street – including the abbey church facing the hotel. The dining rooms and bar blended well in this array of ancient beams and stone work. No doubt the hotel has a variety of appealing rooms, some probably refreshingly modern. My room opened directly on to the street and, with its historic pictures and colourful décor had a personality rarely equaled in accommodation. Despite its ancient pedigree and compact size, the room was thoughtfully designed and had up-to-the minute facilities.
