A decent enough guesthouse, but not 9 or 10 standard

First of all, the positives. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The wifi worked. The lobby was pleasant and immaculately clean. The breakfast menu had six choices, even if some were rather odd. Do you know anybody who wants fish curry for breakfast? The pancakes were delicious. The location was pretty good, apart from the dogs issue, see below; it is conveniently situated between the main street and off a road leading to key attractions.

The number of 10 ratings for this property are a bit silly, but you may have noticed the suspicious frequency of 10 ratings for Sri Lankan guesthouses that name check the managers and staff. White House is a decent guesthouse, but it is not a 9 or 10. Some of the factors that bring it down are beyond the control of the owners, nor am I judging it by European standards. The sockets in the room were very hit and miss. One of the walls could have been cleaner. There appears to be no daily cleaning of rooms because the bed wasn’t made. There was no hot water one morning. There are dogs in the area that sometimes bark loudly. This is not the fault of White House, but it is not great for tired guests.

Gute Lage

Auf dem Moskitonetz haben sich Staub, Flecken und tote Insekten der letzen Jahre gesammelt. Das Badezimmer war alt, nicht sauber und viele Ameisen waren hier zuhause. Toilette war nur nutzbar, wenn man die Duschtüren geöffnet hat - sehr eng.

Habitaciones e instalaciones súper limpias. La ubicación era genial. A unos pocos pasos de restaurantes y ocio. El personal súper amable y el desayuno muy completo.

Por decir algo, pero esto es cuestión de gustos, la ducha tenía poca presión. Nada terrible ni mucho menos, volvería sin pensarlo.

Superfijn rustig hotel op loopafstand van het centrum van Ella

We hebben echt genoten van ons verblijf in White House Ella. De locatie is perfect; dichtbij het centrum maar toch niet lawaaiig. De eigenaren én personeel zijn supervriendelijk. Het hotel is goed onderhouden en oogt gezellig met zitjes beneden en boven. Kortom, super!

Very nice, clean and hospitable place. Being in the side street means it’s calm but still close to shops & all ameni

Family-run property in one of the side streets meaning it’s calm, quaint and has a very personal feel. Owners are very kind and attentive. Good showers, there is a small fridge and tea station in each room. Monkeys walk past balconies on electricity cables. Very clean

Internet / wifi is rather slow in morning and jn evening.

Super Lage und wunderbares Frühstück

Ich hatte einen tollen Aufenthalt im White House. Die Familie war sehr herzlich und das Frühstück richtig gut. Auch die Lage ist top, mit dem TukTuk ist man in ca. 10 Minuten vom Bahnhof beim Hotel. Das Zimmer war eher klein und eng aber als Alleinreisende völlig ausreichend. Ebenfalls hatte ich einen Balkon, was ein zusätzliches Plus ist.

Friendly staff, good location

Kasun was very friendly and helpful and the breakfasts were nicely cooked and well presented.There were extensive communal areas which were well furnished and comfortable - but we didn’t use them much.

The room was a little small but there was a nice little balcony to compensate. Overall, it represented very good value for money.

The White House Ella location is perfect. Very close to the city center. The staff is amazing and very helpful.

It is somehow clean, but requires more. We had dirty towels when we checked in. The staff immediately changed them. We were surprised that there is no air condition. Yet survived the night with the fan.

It's a beautiful house and the owners are lovely and very helpful. We enjoyed having a balcony and hot water. The breakfast was delicious, I would definitely return if we were in the area. Also very central to Ella and all the attractions

Okay for one night

Nice entrance hall and welcoming host. The host recommended a restaurant loved by the locals. Good location.

Lack of detail in the cleaning for example; scum on the bathroom tiles, insects on top of the mosquito net, cobwebs on the ceiling, a strand of hair (not ours) on the bed, the pillows smelled musty and there was a cup with a tea bag left in it and used ashtray on the balcony.

Best accomodation in Ella

Very close to the centre and little Adam‘s Peak :) very clean rooms, maybe the only accomodation in Ella, which doesn‘t house cockroaches ;) Our hosts gave us a self-drawn map so we could hike up Ella Rock without getting lost. They also offered a very good breakfast!

The owners were friendly but not pushy at all. House is beautifull with magnificent lobby. Breakfast is fresh and good. There is a nice massage place in the neighbouring house.

Friendly family home and wholesome breakfast. Situated in side road but still near to most places. Pretty building with plenty of lounging places.

Really squeaky and fairly uncomfortable bed. Room not made up in the four days and no toilet paper to be flushed.

Good experience!

The decor is really nice. The location is good, quite . Just walk about a kilometer from the train station. The room was clean. They provide iron in the public area and two big glass bottles in the room. The bathroom was quite small but it was OK for me. The staff were very welcoming , helpful and nice. It was worth for the money

Wonderful home stay

An absolute gem in Ella! Incredibly professional, yet kind hosts made us feel very welcome and comfortable during our stay. Our room was very clean, spacious and had everything we needed. Breakfast was lovely too. Its probably the best accommodation we've stayed at in Sri Lanka (we've been here for 2 months). I would highly recommend this place. We will cherish wonderful memories from here.
