The staff were generally very friendly, especially the young employees at the front desk, who were extremely helpful and cheerful. The location wasn't bad either, and it was easy to remember how to get to downtown and find my way back.
First off, the cheap, dirty carpet. Oh boy, I thought I had left behind that distinctive hotel carpet smell from the States. Whether from old or new carpeting, it’s the same overwhelming odor that ruins the air quality. Unfortunately, it was exactly the same here.
Also, the quality of German food has declined tremendously over the last five years, and this location was no exception. I was shocked that they didn't offer plain yogurt, either in bulk or in individual containers. The bread was of such low quality that it was almost as bad as what you find in the States, which goes against the traditional German breakfast experience of offering several varieties of fresh bread.
This turned out to be a valuable lesson for the rest of my trip in Germany: never buy breakfast at a hotel. Instead, I went to the nearest bakery every morning, it was far better, more authentic, and even cheaper.
