Everything about this traditional Ryokan was magical. The setting was peaceful and calm. The views were wonderful. The staff was so helpful and did everything to make our stay a wonderful experience. The proprietor was very caring and informative. He provided a history on everything from the food to the surrounding area. The private onsens in the room were outstanding. And the seafood kaiseki dinner was exceptional. (Be sure you like seafood and let them know about any allergies)
We stayed in the main building, which is older and might be due for a refresh. However, you will quickly overlook this because everything is so clean and comfortable. Beds are amazing and comfortable.

We decided to stay in Hakone because we wanted to include at least one spot on our holiday dedicated to full on relaxation. We chose Hakone Kyuan because we wanted a proper Ryokan experience. It completely exceeded all of our expectations. From the staff to the room to the food. Everything was perfect. We were given a detailed tour of our accommodation and offered a free drink to unwind before our Kaiseki dinner. The dinner was served around 6.00pm and included no less than 7 courses, mostly centered around fish. Each course came with a detailed explanation. Once we finished dinner, we were offered the leftover fish and rice as Onigiri - which ended up being the best Onigiri I have ever tasted. The wooden private Onsen that came with our room was the second highlight of our stay. After dinner we relaxed in the thermal bath. In the morning we were served an amazing Japanese style breakfast. In hindsight we regretted that we only booked one night but if we ever end up in Hakone again we will make sure to visit Hakone Kyuan for a second time.

Amazing room and facilities, staff were very friendly and helpful with describing meals or using a translation app if issues arose. Food was amazing even if some of it was not to my usual pallet.
