Edinburgh is an expensive place to visit. That said, when I paid a bit more for a room here (outside of the Castle district and 'the Royal Mile') I expected more luxury, in terms of the room decor, furnishings and room size. Apparently I had booked a room in an Annex building (across the street) which wasn't clear upon booking this stay. The Reception staff offered to switch me to the main building so I am not sure if the room I had originally booked would have been larger or not..? But since I was tired from the prior two weeks of travel I accepted the invitation without looking at the alternative, originally booked room. Upon entering the main property it's not apparent where the Reception area actually is (it's a podium that resembles a restaurant hostess stand). The property is on the bus line and fairly close to a train station. An impressive looking Donaldson Crescent (private property) is next door, which makes you feel like you're "in Scotland." I went to NAM Vietnamese Restaurant (down the street) from the hotel which was good. The staff was very nice (and helped bring my luggage up the stairs since there is no lift) but the stay was rather average for the amount paid, I feel...Expected more from a 'Small Luxury Properties of the World' with a 'West End' location.
No room at all to walk around the bed...had to do a roll across the bed to reach the window. I didn't take any photos of the room so it's hard for me to recall it but I do remember not being terribly impressed.

The location is away from the hustle and bustle, but still walkable to all the things

Had to ring door bell for 5 mins to gain access at night.
Room tiny.
Window wouldn’t shut.
No where near standard of other luxury hotels.
Welcome, access at night, room size, bathroom tiny.
