Hotel Boutique Los Balcones felt less like a hotel and more like staying in our own beautiful 100-year-old mansion in the heart of Cuenca. During our stay, we were actually the only two guests there, which made the experience feel incredibly intimate, peaceful, and special. The rooms were spacious, elegant, and full of old-world charm, and the balcony doors opening to the street created a lovely fresh breeze throughout the room. The staff was warm, welcoming, and attentive, and by the end of our stay it truly felt like coming home each evening. We also loved the location — right in the lively downtown side of the historic center with endless cafes, restaurants, and sights within walking distance.
Because the hotel is located in the busier historic downtown area and the balcony doors open to the street, there can definitely be some street noise at times. Personally, we didn’t find it bothersome and actually enjoyed the energy and fresh air, but very light sleepers may want to know. Also, the hotel is historic and has stairs with no elevator, which could be difficult for some travelers with mobility concerns.

Room was spacious and the bathroom even more so. Very quiet as well. Bed was very comfortable. The shower was very good. The hotel itself is colonial style and very beautiful with a real good atmosphere. Breakfast not very special but sufficient. Location a ten minute walk from the heart of the city. The people in the hotel were very nice and helpful.
Nothing really, water was out of order for an hour but that bit the hotel's fault.

There was so much to like about this hotel.
The staff were excellent. They were friendly and went far above the norm in their desire to make us comfortable. For example, while we were eating it was quite chilly in the dining room. (This is normal at this time of the year in Cuenca where central heating is not common). They brought my wife a blanket to use as a shawl. They also provided an electrice heater for the room.
The restaurant was wonderful. The food was delicious with very large portions.
The included breakfast was about as good as I've ever seen at a buffet. There were a number of hot dishes like sausages, waffles, and scrambled eggs. Lots of tropical fruits, breads, cereals, cheeses, cold cuts, and more. The coffee was rich and flavorful.. And, it was all served on a rooftop level with a view of the city. The view was not the most beautiful, since much of it was of other buildings, but you can still see the mountains in several directions.
The shower in the bathroom was huge. It had both a "rainwater" shower head and a handheld shower head.
All of this was only about $60 including the breakfast. A real bargain winin an historic building with lots of antiques.
In the bathroom, the toilet seat would not stay in the upright position due to the way everything was situated.
There was a very small refrigerator in the room. We stored our leftover dinners from their restaurant in it hoping to have them for the next day, unfortunately, we didn;t realize it wasn't plugged in, so we wasted some delicious food.
