San Luis Obispo and this hostel reminds me a bit of Santa Cruz back in the 1970s. Both are university towns and both have an easy-going, roots-and-berries feel. The house is large, old and funky, in a good way. If you're up for hosteling, this is all that. People are friendly, and they come together in the kitchen and adjacent living room area. The house has built-in shelving and cabinets, where guests can put their food, and where the guests who have left behind food is free for use. The fridge is a jumble of everyone's food, so mark yours with felt-tipped pen. It's on a quiet street (which was undergoing some road work in early September, so people couldn't park there during weekdays) and there's a small parking lot in the back. The front porch and patio has tables and chairs for quiet lounging and enjoying a meal or a drink outside, just watching the world go by. Not into socializing? You can retreat into your room. Every room is different, and if you really want to save money, the dorm rooms are a great option.

This place is a real gem! Id had a rough morning with travel misadventures and was feeling really home sick. But all of that started to melt away when I stepped in the door here. The building is really homey, and the guy at reception was so warm and welcoming. My room and bed were really comfortable, the bathroom was clean and well maintained, and the kitchen and common areas were really good too. Nice suburban feeling location but still close to the cbd. I slept so well. Would stay again!!

I and my wife was stayed in the Deluxe Queen Room The breakfast is horrible. The so-called breakfast was just a bowl of pancake batter. You must make the pancake by yourself. First, the pancake batter was tasted bad. Secondly, the pancake griddle temperature knob was being locked, and the temperature was set too low. It’s impossible to cook the pancake batter firm and golden brown. When I book the hotel, it said breakfast is included and “A complimentary American breakfast is served daily”.
