Nestled in Sierra Nevada, this charming house for $235 per night is a great choice for your next break. California has cowboys, beaches and surfing, skiing, hiking and shopping all rolled into one beautiful state. Seeing Yosemite when you vacation in California is a must. For this vacation, expand your mind and enjoy a true California experience by staying in a straw bale home. Unlike those of big bad wolf fame, modern straw bale homes are warm and comfortable. They provide a unique place to rest your soul (and feet) after a day of discovering Yosemite. Our newly constructed Yosemite Straw Bale vacation home is a wonder. While the straw bales provide incredible R-50 insulation, we are using passive solar heating for preheating our radiant floor heating system with an instantaneous hot water heater as a backup system. Our photovoltaic grid panels are naturally creating clean energy from the sun. We tested these techniques on our own home and perfected them in this vacation rental for your enjoyment. Made to feel like your private second home, design touches include a social kitchen with a granite slab bar height counter, finished dyed concrete floors, and cozy radiant floor heating. Sitting hilltop at 3000 feet elevation (914m), the house includes a private deck perfect for relaxing and enjoying the views. We are also honored to share with you, eight fine art prints by renowned Sierra photographer Howard Weamer. The gates of Yosemite are a mere 35 minutes away* on a drive that follows the wild and scenic Merced River. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Straw Bale house! We were amazed to see that it truly is a straw bale home, so cool! The communication the owners provide is fantastic! Quick to answer any question. The location is great to either head into the Arch Rock Entrance or drive south to the Maiposa Grove entrance to see the Sequioa’s.

We stayed here for three nights while visiting Yosemite, and we couldn't have picked a better place. The cleanliness was top notch, and the location was beautiful, quiet, and serene. There was a storm caused by a very rare hurricane, and Alex stopped by to make sure that we had everything needed for the unusual weather. The storm gave us time to enjoy the many books provided around the home. The location was perfect for driving to both Yosemite and the nearby town of Mariposa. We loved our stay!

Kathleen, we could not have been more delighted with your home. The extra drive time to Yosemite (only 35-40 minutes) was well worth the time. The drive to Yosemite along the Merced River is beautiful! Your house is beautiful. The layout was perfect for my husband and myself and my brother and sister-in-law. We each had our private nook! …. and the deck! Seriously being able to view the sunrise and sunset from the same chair! ….. the views are incredible.

My husband and I traveled from Pa to visit Yosemite and had the privilege of staying at the Midpines Home. It was remote and private with incredible views of the mountains. The home is absolutely lovely, well appointed, very clean, and comfortable. We loved sitting on the deck with a glass of wine and enjoying the quiet. The drive to and from Yosemite may be longer than some other options, but having a home away from home with everything you need was well worth it. Kathleen and Alex were superb hosts and responded quickly if any questions. Thanks for the restaurant recommendations, the Yosemite Bug breakfast was awesome! Thank you.

Staying here was a treat. The owner was responsive via the site and phone in answering our questions about the property and Yosemite. The neighborhood is nice and quiet and easy to get to Yosemite. The place itself was perfect. The kitchen had all of the non-food items one needs, the living room was our go to spot to crash and watch tv after a long day. I would book here again.

We stayed as a family of five looking to explore Yosemite. The house was so clean and perfect for us, about 75 mins from Yosemite Valley. Kathleen was great with communication— the area experienced quite a bit of snow in the weeks leading up to our trip and she was very helpful communicating to us what to expect when we arrived. She also recommended a lovey wildflower hike along the Merced River which was as memorable as any hike in the park. Kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed to cook plus the extras like salt, oil, condiments, and some spices, which was so appreciated! The store is 15 mins away in Mariposa. We loved this little gem of a house and will recommend it to others!

We went to Yosemite for a vacation with some friends and this was a perfect house for that. We both had our own rooms with a bathroom attached. There was a nice table to have meals or games on and a comfortable living space.

This was a great experience from beginning to end. It’s fairly remote making it very quiet with dark skies at night, leaving the Milky Way lit up. So clear we could see the Andromeda galaxy. Day time viewing was of surrounding hills. An hour + from Yosemite but a pretty drive. Well equipped for cooking. Great for adults wanting to visit and relax at the end of the day.

My family and I really enjoyed staying at Lovely Straw Bale Home. First of all, the unit is clean and well maintained. The kitchen area was well equipped where there are many equipment and utensils to use.
The owner Kathleen was really nice and respond to our text in a short time. We were barbeque one day and noticed the propane gas was running low, I texted Kathleen about it and she delivered a replacement right away, that was really nice of her to personally delivered it.

This property has a great location for a visit to Yosemite. The drive took about 35 mins to the park and was very nice. There is a nice grocery store 15 mins from the property where you can get any needed items. It was very nice to sit out on the porch after a long day in the park. Kathleen was amazing with communication before and during the stay. Our family very much enjoyed this property.

Fantastic home !
We are 2 couples who stayed here for 4 nights while visiting Yosemite. We loved every single thing about this home. It was exactly as pictured. The kitchen was super well stocked. Beds very comfy. The owners have truly thought of everything. The gas grill was handy to eat in 2 of the nights. We also liked having the option of Netflix avail. We sure enjoyed the deck overlooking the mountains. Just a wonderful property !

We (family of 4 with a friend) loved our stay. Not too far from Yosemite, beautiful views, clean house with lots of thought put into what would be needed. (Well stocked kitchen) Comfortable beds, pillows could be a bit better (or more in the closet). My only suggestion for an even better stay would be having some extra blankets and better vegetable peeler, otherwise a perfect stay! Would definitely recommend.
