Off grid bliss

This was an absolutely amazing place to stay and we will definitely be back. So relaxing to be away from everything but also close enough to town to go do some sightseeing. I loved the decor and the bathroom as well.

Isolated retreat

The cottage was probably ideal as a retreat but we were driving into Carterton, sometimes twice a day. The trip took 30 mins. There was tea and coffee. I liked the bath though it took a long time to be deep enough to sit in. The owner was lovely and quick to respond to our needs .

It was cold! No heating and the wood was wet. Set mouse trips were visually unappealing and unfortunately there were mice in the ceiling. It was further from Carterton than we were led to believe.

Beautiful stone cottage

A lovely place to stay in a beautiful setting. The hills, bush and nearby river are wonderful. Loved the four legged walking guide. Recommend taking all you need and settling in.

Exceptional

Very cute cottage in beautiful surroundings. Cosy by the fire and lovely decor. Has all the cooking facilities including oven, gas hob and BBQ. Would definitely stay again!

Peaceful get away

Loved getting away from the pressures of technology. The place was so peaceful with the rustic decor and warmth. We felt welcome and the wood stove warmed the entire cottage. The flowers in vases was a welcoming touch. We had use of the garden, the rhubarb was a bonus. We enjoyed the birds flitting through the bush and hearing the tui song through the valley. We are sorry we didn't take any photos.

As lovely and rustic as the photos implied. Amazing stay! Will definitely be back.

Privacy, cosiness, everything set up when we got there (including fire), contained everything we needed, gorgeous view, Charlie!

Inaccessibility of use of shower in the cold.

Little hard to find. Can’t use hair dry or toaster. Recommend a 4 wheel drive. Really cold Ended up staying one night not two

Just what we were looking for, very relaxing!

The cottage, location, facilities and privacy were all exceptional. The hosts were warm, friendly and approachable would love to stay there again!

Relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable. Will recommend.

The rustic novelty of the decor. The outdoor shower. Friendly dog who visited us every day. Lovely quiet, private location.

The weather didn't completely behave itself - but we can't control that!

Picturesque, relaxing, comfortable - Loved the woodburner and the nature - happy to come back again

Everything was as expected; we loved the stay. Despite the 5°C temps outside and rain, it was very comfortable relaxing. The rain made the Saturday morning very picturesque. We didn't check the shower; however, the bathtub was extra comfortable. Water sufficiently hot. Easy access, car parking just next to the cottage. The road goes around the house (a loop) easy drive. A little bit tricky to find the place during nighttime. The "French Village" signpost was a bit covered in bush.

Everything was perfect; however, I recommend that the owner check the gas tanks and gas facilities if they are correctly working before guests come. We have found that the gas stoves had not enough pressure, hence difficult to cook anything or even boil water. On the other hand, the wood burner turns out to be more effective for cooking than the gas stoves - which made our stay in the cottage more adventurous :)

Experience a cottage in the middle of the bush - release your inner pioneer spirit!

The hosts were very friendly and made great suggestions to enhance our stay as soon as I'd made the initial booking. We arrived after dark (which I wouldn't recommend if you can help it) as we had driven a long way to get there. The hosts were there to meet us and popped in the next morning to check everything was OK. This is a beautiful peaceful place and the cottage has a lot of character and enough comforts (including a log fireplace) to enhance your stay.
