The room-wide window allowed us to watch the sunset. There was an armchair and wheelie chair, allowing us to eat at the small table together. The beds were in good condition and the bedding was all clean - an important basic. The shower was powerful and hot, with products available to use and plenty of space in the cubicle - a real treat at the end of a long day. Maintenence did come to address the slow draining sink on day 2. A refill of loo roll and tissues was needed as the quality was so poor. This room reset included them only leaving one hand towel and bath towel - in a twin room where two people were clearly staying - but a replacement was brought up to the room very speedily once requested. Staff were a bit hit and miss: they seemed understaffed. I waited a good 5 minutes or more for anyone to attend the main reception on checkout, at ten to 11 when surely they are most busy? The two phone calls made to the front desk took a long time to be answered. The person who checked us in did not care about our stay - the information provided was lacklustre and sped through, and questions were not welcomed - she seemed to want to get rid of us asap. I waited at the bar for a good 5 minutes for any staff be available to serve me to order food in the evening both days, although staff were then pleasant enough. They did set up a tray to take up to our room nicely though and were pleasant at this point of contact.
Sadly, quite a lot. The bathroom door used a cut out part of the sink surround to swing open. This swing covered the only floor space in the room, so you had to squeeze between the sink and toilet bowl to get in past the door to then shut it - not very dignified or hygienic. The flush for the toilet was behind the lid so you had to touch the lid, which was slow/soft close, every time you needed to flush. As mentioned above, the toilet roll and tissue quality were terribly poor.
Into the room now. There were dirty marks on the ceiling, a big stain on the seat of the armchair. The refreshments were poorly stocked. The view was of the flat rooftop so all grey and machinery and metalwork. The door didn't seal the light from the corridor well at night. Doors banged loudly and voices carried. There were signs of repairs done but to an amateur level. Trays of food and glasses left around the hotel.
The food - please don't waste your money like we did, and I gave them two tries! The first night we ordered from the main menu - bland, low quality, but it was food. The second night we tried the Greek menu - the dishes were missing vital parts and still barely edible. I would compare it to the reheated dishes at Wetherspoons in the 2000s. The Tesco Extra cafe was better quality, and that too was pretty basic! The restaurant was pretty busy though so I'm not sure why!
