Despite the reception staff dealing with many problems they remained cheerful and bright and dealt with us politely, professionally, respectfully and cheerfully. The breakfast was superb.
In our case we can't think of anything.

A beautiful historic building that seems to have once been a hunting lodge for Henry VIII. The tudor building had a lot of interesting quirks, including a staircase that had long, low steps and a real suit of armour halfway up. The room was very comfortable, great bed and a massive bathroom, though the bath itself was deep, it was very narrow so difficult to get out of, but a magnificent shower and handbasin.
The floors are uneven throughout, so care has to be taken, but the charm of the building made up for that.
The restaurant was good - think hig -end pub food, but the chicken liver pate was the best I've ever had.
What really stood out, though, was the staff; they could not have done more to make our stay better, Welcoming, friendly and went out of their way to assist our every request.
It suffers from an identity issue, being unsure if it is a hotel, restaurant, wedding venue or spa. This shows in the focus of the layouts, but it actually didn't affect us. The other issue is that it is looking tired, with stained carpets and scuffs that could do with a little love.

This our 3rd stay - perfect location en route to Scotland. Spa is brilliant and the restaurant food, particularly breakfast, was exceptional. We shall be back.
Radiators were on all night - it was a hot day in September - not really their fault i guess - probably on a timer.

Location
Disappointed by the breakfast in particular to my request for scrambled eggs. Was served with powdered eggs which in a hotel is totally unacceptable, but made worse due to not being informed by the server that they would be powdered and then given the opportunity to change my choice. At no point during the breakfast did the server enquire if everything was okay with the food… like it or lump it being the only choice available.
