I loved my stay at the Excelsior. For three enchanted days, I completely forgot about my everyday life - what more can you ask for on vacation? I can't pinpoint anything special that made it so nice, it was just a combination of feeling welcome and being made comfortable. I did especially love the launch to Venice, though! And the ice cappuccino at breakfast was the best I've ever had.
The plugs (electricity) are antiquated - it doesn't seem worthy of this hotel that one has to plunge underneath the bed to try and find one...! Also, I would have appreciated a kettle in the room.

The Lido was pretty and quiet.
Staff on the front desk and restaurant were polite and helpful.
Pool staff were very unhelpful and outright rude!
Not enough sunbeds around pool. Strict policy about when to enter in the morning. We had already eaten breakfast and wanted to go for a swim. Young female lifeguard very rude. All customers should be treated equally. It was later noticed that monetary bribes were being paid to pool staff to save beds in a particular location.
We chose the hotel because it had a pool. There was nowhere to sit anywhere near it on the first day. We went to the beach - could not even access water as sand was too hot to walk over (even with sandals on) and a handful of sunbeds (sea was obscured by tents/cabanas) which cost 400 euros a day. Absolutely ridiculous when the room which was on the small side was nearly £500 a night.
Generally, not impressed at all, overpriced and dining out on a reputation of being an old hotel. Tired looking decor in some areas and one poolside toilet which was filthy with excrement and water all over floor!
The only good thing was the food but again for a bottle of wine, two starters, average main course, no dessert was close to £500.
Will not be going back - there are far better and more superior hotels we have stayed in close to St Mark’s Square and Rialto.
