About this apartment rental

The George Baldwin House was constructed in 1887. Designed by architect William Gibbons Preston. This was the first commission for Preston who later went on to design many of the most famous and impressive Savannah landmarks such as the Cotton Exchange. This home is largely original and rustic on the interior. The low price reflects that aspect of the unit interior but the incredible house and great location certainly are impressive. This is for those who want to experience something far different from a polished hotel room during their historic Savannah vacation. Brockington Hall is right next door. The apartment kitchen is stocked with basic utensils (plates, pots and pans, etc) as well as a refrigerator and stove and dishwasher. We do provide sheets and towels at this listing as well.

There are two separate bedrooms in this garden apartment unit, each with a Queen size bed. The bathroom is en suite with one of the bedrooms and the bedrooms have curtains as doors so this is great for parents with a teenager or 2 friends who want to sleep in separate beds but may not be suitable for 2 couples.

We do not have a sleeper sofa so this unit sleeps a max of 4 people.

The gardens and exterior of the home are other worldly, like stepping back in time. All outdoor space is shared with several other apartments in the mansion. Each apartment has its own private entrance. You have a very spacious screened in porch including an outdoor dining table and sofa that is private to this apartment. Parking is free and easy on the street at this location and the main downtown grocery store (Kroger) is less than a block away.

My friend and I came to Savannah for a few days and this location was perfect. We were a few minutes from Forsyth Park. We were far enough away from the downtown area so it was lovely and quiet. There is a Kroger grocery store a block away which was wonderful. Our hostess was extremely quick to respond to any questions. All in all we loved this location. Great charm! Thank you

We loved our stay at this beautiful historic home. The brickwork alone is amazing to look at. No one said this apartment was accessible, and it wouldn’t be for a wheelchair, as there are little steps into the yard and then into the apartment. There are big, luscious wood thresholds and uneven flooring in one bedroom as well as many rugs. The beds were clean and comfortable. Easy to sleep in with the shades drawn! The kitchen would be better used with more lighting but had everything we needed. The sitting area/porch was a wonderful place to watch birds and squirrels outside. And, at night, we could step out and hear a gazillion frogs from across Hall Street.Savannah can be jungly with all the abundant vegetation and the backyard was no exception. Probably would be more comfortable around the outdoor sitting area if the leaves were blown out/raked up.A deep cleaning and a little fresh paint would go a long way in making this funky and beautiful apartment even more appealing. So convenient to have the Kroger just across the street. I hope nothing like the Baldwin house was torn down to build it but it was appreciated by us.It’s nice to be able to walk to the park or catch the free bus downtown. The street parking was convenient as there were always spots available.I gave only 4 stars for communication as the water was turned off mid-day and we were not informed. The plumber told me that it wouldn’t be long so it wasn’t a problem.Nice neighbors there. I recommend it!

Parking was easy. Not within walking distance of downtown. It was advertised as a 10 min. Walk. It was more like 45. Not good for seniors in their 70's.House was worn. Needs updating. Beds were comfortable. Would not recommend or stay there again.
