Fantastic hotel. Clean, warm, welcoming. Great location. Food offering is really nice.
Only downside to my stay was the conduct of some staff who were eating breakfast with guests.
It is not professional for staff in uniform to be laid across bench seats, complaining about their food being cold and talking about their social life around customers.
The hotel needs to provide staff with a suitable staff room.

It was nice to get away. Property is ok. Bit meh.
- Double bed is two singles pushed together, and not that comfortable either
- Don’t look behind the tv in the room - it’s a world of dust, never been cleaned from what I could see.
- You are asked to keep or remove the tip every time you use the bar (for anything).
- Service at breakfast is like waiting for an infrequent bus.
- Breakfast itself isn’t great.
- We stayed there maybe 20 years ago and it felt quite posh(ish). It doesn’t feel like that anymore. Feels like you’re staying in a Premier Inn with a nicer looking bar but worse bed.
- Parking is horrific.
- There’s pretty much a monopoly on pubs in Ambleside (Inn Collection Group) with very few left that aren’t part of this group. They all feel very similar to each other.
- On another note, we had an issue with travel (car unexpectedly had to go into garage). I tried to move the stay back a day, then to December, then to May of the following year, all declined by the hotel (via booking.com). Had to borrow another family member’s vehicle. The dates were all available (one at extra cost) but for whatever reason the hotel won’t accommodate. For this reason alone, we won’t stay again.
