There is nothing more romantic than strolling to the beach to watch the sunset, and returning to enjoy drinks by the pool. The large rooms in this historic property, with garden, pool, and ideal location, provide comfort and a great ambiance for your holiday retreat. Casasol is located near Windansea Beach in a historic exclusive neighborhood called Lower Hermosa. Unlike some La Jolla homes in the hills where there are no sidewalks and it is difficult to walk, the homes in this area are perfect for walking, jogging, or bike riding. Casasol is a designated historic property built in 1928-29, by noted architects Herbert Mann and Thomas Shepherd. Today the house is restored and modernized, but filled with the same charm and character that the architect gave La Jolla's famous La Valencia Hotel: carved stone benches, leaded glass windows, hand-crafted tiles; high beamed ceilings; carved walnut paneled dining room, tile and wood floors throughout. The house is equipped with everything you need to play, picnic, and enjoy the beaches, from folding chairs, coolers, to beach towels, toys and bikes. The family room with flat screen TV has an adjacent cabana bath for changing for the pool. Exquisitely furnished, with the best linens, a gourmet eat-in kitchen with travertine floors, granite and Corian surfaces, Casasol will provide a holiday in style and comfort. A wood burning fireplace is equipped with a gas starter, and a pile of firewood is available. The large bedrooms with black out curtains are perfect for a good nights sleep. The large dining room seats up to 10, kitchen breakfast table up to 6, patio table 8. We provide two additional folding beds, and a Graco crib for children. We are located a 8 minute walk to the beach, 5 minute drive into the village of La Jolla, few minute drive into the hamlet of Bird Rock (coffee houses & restaurants), and 20 minute drive to downtown San Diego and a bit further to the zoo. The owners of Casasol have an apartment with a separate entrance located in an adjoining building on the West side of the property. They are seldom on site, and your access and use of the main house is totally private. ********************** House Layout: The 4300 sq. ft. home includes three large sun-filled bedrooms upstairs, each with bathrooms en suite, a bathroom off the kitchen, and a family room with its own bathroom. Total of five BATH ROOMS. Bed configuration: UPSTAIRS BEDROOMS: Master Bedroom 1: California King -- sleeps 2 Master Bedroom 2: Cal King -- sleeps 2 Study off West Bedroom accommodates small folding bed for children. Twin Bedroom 3: (can be made into King bed): Twin beds- sleep 2 All of the bedrooms are furnished with seasonal quality linens. Extra Folding Beds for children: 2 (these can be placed in the study off BD2- or in the large bedrooms. For little ones: 1 Graco Pack-n-Play, diaper pail, stroller Newborn bathtub High chair Booster seat Toys for beach and pool Childrens books huge box of wooden blocks ************************** Private Pool: Surrounded by a wall and 60’ tall trees and a garden, the Private Pool is about 25 feet in length and is 9 feet deep at the deep end. ************************** Kid friendly beaches: Within a few minutes walk is a beach for wonderful tide pooling and exploration. A few minutes into the village, and any day you can watch the seals play at the Children’s Pool. CLEANING PROTOCOL COVID-19 has resulted in a cleaning protocol which is basically double our former protocol. Special attention is made to clean then disinfect the typical areas we frequently touch (all electrical switches, bannister, knobs, chair arms, backs of chairs). Special covers are placed on remotes. Hand sanitizers are available. Linens are washed at suitable high temperatures. As you know, sun is the best killer of the virus, and you should have all the outdoor sun you need. We always have a complete day to clean before you arrive, and leave days after each departure and before the next check-in. No smoking is permitted in the house. This property was perfect for our family, including our young grandchildren. The house is spacious and contained everything we needed and more. The gardens and private pool are beautiful. The host, Shona, was so kind and responsive and made sure we had everything we needed for a fun vacation. We hope to return!

Everything about the hostess and home exceeded our expectations. Even the weather cooperated. The home was beautiful and immaculate and Shona went above and beyond to accommodate us in every way. We stayed at Casasol for 5 nights with our adult children. It was perfect for the occasion. Huge so everyone had space, very clean and a superbly equipped kitchen. We have stayed in a lot of properties and never seen such a well equipped kitchen! Shona was super helpful prior to arrival, recommending restaurants etc and very quick to reply. Thank you Shona!

Casasol is terrific
My wife and I vacationed at Casasol to celebrate our 50th Wedding Anniversary and had a most excellent time. Casasol is a gorgeous home with an exquisite garden and pool. The home is filled with all sorts of excellent details, comfortable furniture, and entertainment equipment. While the house is historic and elegant, the entertainment electronics, internet network, and appliances are all state of the art. The hosts were extremely friendly and accomodating. all-in-all a great experience at a great place to stay.

The property was spacious and well appointed. The cleanliness of the house needed improvement-kitchen cabinets had greasy handles, kitchen floor stained. Owner requesting that we wash and dry the used bath towels (which we did) was shocking since we paid a housecleaning fee. The owner also accused us of a stain on the kitchen floor and scraping the living room floor with furniture and went after the insurance to get more money, she returned only half our security deposit. We are respectful guests and did not abuse this property. The owners should not be renting their beautiful house that they live in full time in the off season, since they are overly attached to this residence.

Beyond the property we had easy access to a ten minute walk through a beautiful neighborhood to wonderful beaches where the children played in tidal pools, rode the waves, enjoyed the sunsets. Stores and restaurants are nearby and fun to visit.

Absolutely Lovely Stay!
From the first inquiry I knew Casasol was going to be the perfect choice for my family holiday get together. My Sister, husband and I (mid-late 50’s) and 2 daughters (20,24)needed a place to host our parents (who live locally) for lunch each day. Shona was wonderful with every detail- and that is exactly how I found her beautiful home. Not a detail was missed. Both the living room and the family room were cozy/ comfy -several couches and chairs recline! The beds were all extremely comfortable and fresh. Plenty of blankets and pillows available for a picky guest to swap out. Bathrobes for everyone ( I regret not getting a family photo with us all wearing them (; ) My husband had to work several mornings and the office space off the west bedroom was sunny, nice and a happy place to Zoom call away! The bathrooms were generously stocked with everything from bath salts to assorted body washes to facial cleansers-the east bedroom was even outfitted with a bidet toilet-nothing was missed! The kitchen was even more outfitted if that’s possible. With a profession chef background, I am sometimes a little frustrated making meals in rental homes- lacking serving platters, large cookware, cutting boards and most often dull knives-not the case here. There wasn’t a kitchen appliance or tool I could think of that this kitchen didn't have! Truly. Considering the lovely large carved wood dining room I should have known better. It was a delight cooking in that kitchen. It was spacious and allowed my sister, girls and I a wonderful time each day bonding over the noontime meal. The pool was large and pretty, just like the pictures. There are pool towels and noodles in the pool family bathroom. I used the BBQ twice- easy, large, great. The garage is stocked with all sorts of beach toys, towels and chairs. The 2 bikes were really fun for my daughters who went out riding every morning. I absolutely loved the living room for it’s fabulous fireplace. This wood smelled terrific and crackled.( and there was at least a cord in the rack). It was a lovely trip. As for COVID - the home was super clean when we arrived. We let our selves in and spoke with Shona on the phone. She was an email away. Our family had been quarantining for 2 weeks prior and had been covid tested so we could spend time with my elderly parents. My brother sadly had to bow out at the last moment due to several positive tests at his workplace. We are grateful for the time spent with them at Casasol.

Everything We Wanted and More!
Staying at Casasol was better than we could have imagined. Not only do Barry and Shona have an amazingly well kept and beautiful historic home, they also provided everything you could possibly need to enjoy your time there. They had all the beach items, kitchen items, bathroom items, and entertainment/technology items necessary. There was nothing overlooked and they provided all the information needed while also being readily available for any other questions. The location was perfect to enjoy a little bit of everything that La Jolla and San Diego have to offer. Can’t wait to make it back!!

Really Special
This home is just beautiful! It’s got such old La Jolla charm while being fully stocked with everything you could need. The pool is pristine and we enjoyed every minute. The owners left many recommendations for restaurants and I was able to reach out and ask them if they knew of a masseuse that could make house calls. We had the most wonderful massages outside by the pool. It was amazing! Highly recommend this home to anyone looking for something a little extra special.

Terrific visit...beautiful home and attentive hosts.
Other than the fact there was no diving board at the pool disappointing our grandsons...(it was in the picture of the listing)...every thing was terrific. Our hosts often checked in on us to make sure we were OK and kind enough to buy some additional toys for the kids while we were there . We have recommended the property to several of our friends.

Amazing vacation
Beautiful historic property with incredible hosts.
If you are into architecture you will love this home it is absolutely beautiful with features you will not find in a modern home. It is roomy and comfortable and you feel like you are in a museum with all the modern comforts.
The pool and gardens are incredible and you feel like you are in an oasis.
Shona and Barry were wonderful hosts and there was Very useful information about the beaches, Restraunts and other attractions.
It was also very well equipped with everything you need to cook, toys, towels, bathroom needs etc, so you don’t need to bring much except food and drinks. I highly recommend it!
