The hotel provided exceptional value given what I paid for staying there for 3 nights.
I was actually shocked that there were only a few guests and could not understand why since I really enjoyed the stay.
Must be a seasonal thing, I went there just before the season started, end of October.
The location is very good (mountain side with an amazing view, but walking distance to the city center).
The room was luxurious and spacious with a view onto the mountain slope which I loved.
I could go on with other things I really liked, but I want to finish with the best one:
The staff went above and beyond to make my stay amazing: personal breakfast buffet (felt treated like a king), attentive waiters (Chaminda) who can also recommend you things (without trying to scam you like some locals), lovely welcome and checkout. The two ladies at the reception Shashikala and Vidushi were always smiling, helpful and simply nice to chat to.
I'd be happy to come back some day.
My balcony was really nice, but I did not use it much as you have to close the windows otherwise monkeys can come inside and wreak havoc. Though, that's general problem in Kandy and not particular for Serene Kandy.
One morning at 6 am, I woke up due to a school band practicing nearby. I first thought it was construction noise, but it was actually a bunch of kids with loud drums. That wasn't too bad in the end as I had to get up early anyway. I think people in Kandy tend to get up around that time in general since sunset is at 6pm and you want to do most things before that.

The family room is actually 2 connected room with 2 separate bathrooms, which is very convenient. Room is comfortable and spacious, shower was with good pressure and warm water. The breakfast was fantastic. It was a buffet with plenty of choice and very tasty. Staff was fantastic. It was my husband's birthday and they prepared a cute cake to sing Happy Birthday at breakfast. Thanks a lot for our lovely stay.
Really nothing.

Staff are friendly. Pool is good.
Feels very dated. Food was average. Overpriced for what it is.
