Nice rooms, comfy beds, weird smell in reception areas.

The property itself was great. Weird smell in the communal areas but not in the rooms. We booked the two bed "rooms" and thought we were getting an apartment. It was expensive for two bedrooms. The area had a lot of good restaurants, but the bad news is we had to walk past a lot of homeless and drug affected people to get there from the train station. We didn't feel safe and had to go out of our way to avoid this. On the last day our door lock wasn't working and was unable to be fixed so we checked out early and took our bags closer to the train station. Room was clean and tidy. Bed was really comfortable. But it was an odd experience with no staff on site to assist when the door got stuck.

Homeless issue in the immediate area requires caution. A lot of people milling out front of the train station as we arrived. We really felt like we had to be on our guard.

Move on to another choice.

Nothing. Possibly the location, but that has nothing to do with the actual experience of staying here.

The door lock was broken and we needed to consistently fiddle with it for some time to get it to open. The bathroom had lots of mild and mildew. The sheets smelled deeply sour — like unwashed people had slept in them. The sink was clogged and did not drain. There were signs of deterioration and unkempt lack of care everywhere - chipping paint, stains etc. Customer service is impossible. You can only talk to canned response, bot-like service and only online. My complaints were not heard and resolution was NOT satisfactory. I paid a decent amount of money nightly for this room and I fully understood I was staying in a boutique/alternative style hotel and that SF has a higher nightly rate, however the experience I got was more similar to a Tenderloin hourly motel. I get that I was not in a 5 star hotel, but the experience I had did not match the nightly rate. I am so deeply disappointed. I am so unsatisfied with the customer service result. I strongly encourage anyone considering this hotel to MOVE ON to something else. Stay somewhere where you can deal with a person, not a bot, if you have issues. Communication was a NIGHTMARE and we were told by someone who did work there cleaning that we would receive compensation. When we tried to translate this online it was avoided and instead they tried to give us Sonder credits to stay at on of their hotels again sometime. I will never stay in a Sonder establishment anywhere. Ever. My comments do not even begin to cover all that was wrong with this place. I have photographic and video evidence of everything I speak of. Don’t stress yourself out staying somewhere this dirty with this kind of lack of service or resolution

Very comfortable, roomy and clean

The rooms were very clean and comfortable, the communal lounge was large and airy

We didn’t have any issues with the inside, the graffiti outside was quite off putting upon arrival

The decor and ambiance was perfect. Check-in and Check-out are arranged smoothly and are very convenient. The lounge offers some amenities like water, bags for tea and a microwave with enough seating, which was very appreciated. If you needed another towel, there was a supply cupboard to help your self. The location of the Hotel is very convenient close enough to take a short Uber or walk to the Mission, twin peaks or fisherman’s wharf.

The rooms could have been a little cleaner. harder to reach surfaces, corners and surfaces like baseboards don’t seem to get cleaned properly and/or for every guest. There are hardly any restaurants or coffee shops outside the hotel.

Locked out multiple times with no staff onsite to assist

Location was convenient.

There is no staff at this location. Upon arrival, the code I was sent to access my room did not work. It took Sonder's phone support (in an offshore call center) 15 minutes to issue a new code, and they could not explain why the original code did not work. Halfway through my stay, the new code stopped working and I was locked out of my room. After 15 more minutes on the phone, I was issued a third access code. Customer service could not explain why they had changed the access code in the middle of my stay nor why they had not proactively notified me. Additionally: - No security deadbolt or chain on the inside of the door; anyone with the code would be able to enter at any time. - Full payment was charged upon booking, not at check-in as advertised. - Online check-in prior to arrival (mandatory) required "consent" to (mandatory) intrusive facial recognition software.

Great stay!

Room has all you can possibly need. Clean and spacious enough. Very safe area. Alison was super friendly. Thank you!! Also, storage room very handy to be able to explore the city without carrying luggage if having a late flight.

Could not adjust room temperature (central heating) but they provide coolers and heaters.

Superb

Room was clean and cosy and had good facilities. Nice having the cold water machine available at all times. Great location to all parts of the city.

The rooms were not cleaned/bins empties for our entire visit. For the price, it would have been good for this to happen.

Cute Place for a Couple

Enjoyed the room and the location. Great communication before and after the stay, very seamless and easy to follow.

If I were to be super picky, I wasn't very happy with the outside noise and the fact that there was very little ventilation in the room. After the first night we understood why there was a Soundscape machine and ear plugs. Our room looked over to the street and in order to get fresh air, the windows needed to be open, but there was no screens or anything that could keep bugs, birds or similar, (nothing happened or got in) but it was a bit scary.

The concept of the Sonder is fantastic - codes for both entry to building and room - shared dining room and seating area, luggage storage accessible by code.

fantastic accommodation for a city stay!

brilliant location near local transport into main area of San Fran. Patricia’s green behind gough street is absolutely gorgeous - a hidden gem. absolutely loved the cleanliness of the whole property. beds extremely comfy and huge! loved everything about this property.

Fabulous

I like not having a check-in and the “unstaffed” property. The room was tight, but comfortable.

The common room is beautiful, but other guests were not respectful - for example doing a Zoom call in the common area - maybe that’s what it’s for - but I found it rude.

My Hayes Valley getaway revisited

Location was excellent. Building felt secure, clean and the common room is a very nice space. My room was clean comfy & decently furnished.

Door code is tricky but I got the hang of it. I miss the complimentary granola, juices & fruit. Surely you can find a sanitary means to provide pre-packaged cereals & milk?

Good location

I like the location, was pretty safe, and not so many homeless people around it. I like the lobby too, was very spacious and clean. The room was clean!

I do not like the room, first a all I expected to be an apartment with 2 rooms, and kitchen too. I got there and there was 2 rooms, different levels, not even close to each other. The room for 4 pl, was very small, we didn’t have space to move around the bad, imagine, we had each person 1 carry on, no space to put them, no table, everything was on the night stand( coffee and all the instruction). 1 of the window couldn’t be close bc of the AC, and all the sound from outside, car traffic and everything was so loud! There is no kitchen!!!!!

location they have a nice living room equipped with extra stuff

this is not an hotel, this is an appartement place. you get a code to enter the building and then another code to enter your room. You don’t meet anyone to help you. we never received the code to enter the building and found ourselves trying to call the support in the middle of the street. would expect to be less expensive if there’s not even a front desk. also my bed stand was sticky from chocolate so felt unclean

Small but good location

The rooms were clean and location was great right in the middle of the trendy Hayes Valley. I appreciated how seamless and high-tech the contactless checkin was.

The room was very smaller (smaller than I expected) and there was a private bathroom but it was across the public hallway.

Great location, but I will look elsewhere next time I stay in SF for work.

Location was very convenient.

The room wasn't advertised as having no real window, there wasn't A/C. It also wasn't clear that the restroom was across the hall from my room. Although there were desks to work in in the common spaces, the room was too small to accommodate one making it difficult from a productivity standpoint. This company advertises convenience and reliability over Airbnb, but the access instructions didn't update in the app when I got a late code change right before my stay - the app was useless and I just had to dig up the text notification every time. Glad I didn't delete the text.
