I booked two (Superior Family Room) for one night. We arrived at the hotel quite late, We were four adults and were extremely tired after travelling.
we were allocated Room 124 and Room 429, which were different in terms of size, layout, and facilities, despite both being booked under the same room category.
Room 124 had proper central air conditioning, which worked perfectly well.
Room 429 had an under-window air-conditioning unit, which was not working.
What made the situation even more disappointing was that the hotel appeared to be already aware of the cooling problem, as the room had been provided with both a standing electric fan and a portable air-conditioning unit. The portable AC had a large exhaust hose running across the room and out through the window. The entire arrangement looked improvised and was certainly not what I would expect to find in a Hilton hotel in London.
To make matters worse, the portable air conditioner did not work either. A member of staff came to the room and personally attempted to operate it but was unable to get it working.
I therefore requested that Room 429 be replaced. Unfortunately, the hotel declined my request on the grounds that there were no other rooms available.
As a result, we had no reasonable alternative but to give up Room 429 completely. The four of us stayed in Room 124, and Room 429 was returned to the hotel immediately and was not used.
I requested a full refund for Room 429, as the room could not reasonably be used and the hotel was unable to provide a suitable replacement. Unfortunately, my request was declined, and I was offered a refund of only 40% of the room rate.
I did not consider this to be a fair resolution. However, given how late it was and how exhausted we were after travelling, I accepted the 40% refund at the time simply because I was too tired to continue discussing the matter that night.
