Poor quality for 5 star prices
The Superior Room was a good size. Staff were all helpful. Location good for going around Cambridge.
The TV in the room only had access to terrestrial TV due to a technical issue that impacted all rooms, so no way to access Netflix etc. Showerhead in the bathroom was caked in limescale and mould and clearly hadn't been cleaned in ages. They did clean it when I asked them to but it still didn't come up clean and they acknowledged it should be changed, the rest of the room was perfectly clean. Breakfast was ok but not worth the £17 they charged for it. The hotel lounge was closed one of the evenings we there for a private function and there wasn't enough seating in the bar to accommodate all who wanted to be there. Also the gym was closed (and had been for some time) for "technical reasons".

Disappointing. A memorable Christmas for all the wrong reasons!
Check in was great - reception staff were all friendly and professional. Made a great first impression. There were 3 of us so I booked a double with park view plus a twin. Our rooms were right next to each other which was great and the double room was lovely and spacious with views of the park - a really nice room. The twin was a bit small and stuffy but ok.
1) Bar drinks were very expensive and extremely slow to come to our table. A miniscule portion of nuts cost £5!! 2) Our shower head was falling off the wall - this should have been reported by Housekeeping and dealt with prior to check in. 3) We booked to stay on Christmas Eve as a special treat after an awful year for the family. At 3am on Christmas day the fire alarm went off and a loud speaker instructed everyone to evacuate. We followed the fire escape route from the 7th floor and found ourselves on a side street. There was noone to direct us so we found the front of the hotel. There were no instructions, no headcount or register taken , and no information as to when it was safe to return to our rooms. Complete absence of management of the evacuation. Absolutely shocking. We learned on the grapevine that the alarm had been triggered by steam in the boiler room so we all climbed back up the 7 flights to our rooms (the lifts had not been restarted). The next day the hotel offered absolutely nothing to acknowledge the events of the night. Not even a drink. Given that our Christmas day celebrations, after little or no sleep, were a washout, I would have expected some sort of goodwill gesture. Instead the Reception Manager was unsympathetic and unmoveable. Eventually, after repeated failures to call me as promised, they begrudgingly agreed to a small discount on our bill. If you judge an organisation on how it deals with its customers when things go wrong, this hotel ranks poorly.
