On a long drive down to Cornwall with the dog, The Dog Inn was the perfect stopover. Lovely classic pub with good beers, delicious food, a big garden and a Scrabble set. We stayed in the family room, which had recently been refurbished with a plush carpet and nice decor. The location was perfect - just off the motorway but right in the countryside with fantastic walks. We'll definitely stay again - we've actually already booked to stay on our way back.
One of the beds had some very sinky sections, but the beds we used were very comfortable

This pub was perfectly-located for our purposes, directly on the Cotswold Way footpath. It's an ancient building, with heavy wooden beams etc. The bedrooms are in a more modern building out the back, which apparently used to be a skittle alley. Our (family) room was very big, and the bathroom was a good size too. The food in the bar was of a surprisingly high standard, with excellent ham/eggs/chips, and the lad serving in the evening was nice enough. They did a very good packed lunch too.
Overall a slightly gloomy experience, despite the above good points - the pub itself was pretty rough, with threadbare furniture, sticky tables, suspiciously soft floorboards under a filthy carpet, and a huge purple flat screen TV up on one wall. The beds and bedding were really cheap and not very comfortable, and it looked/smelt like the sheets hadn't been changed since the last guest (maybe the duvet itself hadn't been washed in a while?) Better quality bedclothes would have made a big difference. A shame.
