This was my first experience with Pestana, and I honestly could not have wished for a better introduction to the brand. I have stayed in many hotels over the years, and Pestana Royal is genuinely one of the most guest-focused and service-oriented hotels I have ever experienced.
The hotel itself is excellent: spacious grounds for Madeira, several swimming pools, a tennis court, comfortable rooms and very good food. I especially appreciated the relaxed dining schedule — even if you miss breakfast, brunch starts immediately afterwards, so there is almost always something available to eat. This is incredibly convenient when travelling with children.
But what made our stay truly special was the team. We often travel for our children’s birthdays, and I usually ask hotels if they can arrange a small surprise. Over the years, we have stayed in many very good and quite expensive hotels, but I can honestly say that I have never experienced this level of personal attention and responsiveness anywhere else. What Pestana Royal did for my daughter’s 5th birthday genuinely exceeded all my expectations.
They prepared balloons and a birthday cake, and the Guest Relations Manager even personally bought her a beautiful present. The cake, the gift and all these thoughtful birthday surprises were provided at no extra charge, which made the gesture even more touching and unexpected. I had never experienced anything like this from a hotel before. My daughter was absolutely delighted and played with her new doll throughout our entire stay.
Beautiful facilities matter, but what really makes a hotel memorable is its people. The team here made us feel genuinely cared for.

The outdoor pools and the food was amazing!

The location and staff were lovely. Beautiful country.
We had some issues with the toilets and sewer smell. Food was not as great as other places I’ve been and at times some of the meat was not seasoned or not cooked fully and we had upset tummy a few times but it was ok. Breakfast however was excellent. Loved it
