Opened in spring 2014, the Ruby Sofie Hotel Vienna by IHG is housed in the historic Sofiensäle, a former concert hall just a 5-minute walk from the Landstraße-Wien Mitte metro hub and the famous Hundertwasserhaus.

We love this quirky hotel, with guitars available to borrow and music inspired decor, and try to stay here whenever we are in Vienna. The staff are always lovely, it is clean and comfortable, and the breakfast is good. They provide a lot of choice including overnight oats, smoked salmon, stuffed cherry tomatoes, crudités, cheeses, charcuterie and good bread as well as pastries and hot choices. It is part of an historic building so the rooms are not large but they are well planned, and the location is very convenient near Wien Mitte for the airport train or tram/metro system. It is also close to the Hundertwasserhaus and some good restaurants. Quite a few other places are with walking distance if you are happy to walk 20-30 minutes. There ia also a nice outdoor sun lounge and separate yoga space on floor 5.
The gallery kitchen which supposedly replaces tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms is a bit hit and miss. There may or may not be teabags (proper tea, as opposed to fruit or herbal drinks) or coffee sachets and the hot water tap is temperamental to say the least. Also, it is on floor 5 which is a bit inconvenient if your room is on floor 4.

Room was comfy and I loved that I was looking onto the courtyard so it was nice and quiet. Also loved the deco of the bar and restaurant area, very cool and quirky.
Shower/toilet in room was an interesting concept, not sure it really works to pass through the loo into the shower, all glass walls. Was OK as a single traveller, but as a couple, or two friends, would be a bit lacking in space and intimacy
