We’ve traveled all over the world, and we’ve never stayed anywhere as extraordinary as this. The photos don’t come close to capturing its magic—this place is truly beyond description. The accommodation sits inside a climate‑controlled cave more than 9,000 years old, owned by an artist who has transformed it with his own stunning artwork and beautifully curated antique furnishings.
Set in the heart of the Sassi of Matera—the oldest continuously inhabited city in the world—the location is remarkable, and the stay matched it in every way. Matera itself is unforgettable, and this property was every bit as exceptional.

Great location, charming helpful owner with excellent recommendations for restaurants, a nearby movie about Matera and even a music concert. He is an artist. Pictures are views from the upper apartment. We only used one of three rooms that could be combined.

Tudor was exceptionally friendly and helpful. When looking for a parking area and laundry facility he went above and beyond. He insisted on assisting us with our luggage.
The entire property was very clean. Also, Tudor was very accommodating in recommendation to restaurants and arranging local tours. The view from the upper deck was wonderful, especially at night.
The location is centrally located in the scenic and historical area.
I didn't like the fact that my family and I didn't get to actually stay in the cave part of the property which was the primary draw for selecting this property. We stayed in the addition above the cave which was still very old and in excellent condition. The breakfast consisted of K cup coffee and a fresh croissant delivered to the property. When we read our stay included breakfast we were expecting a little more than that.
