Probably the nicest hotel I've stayed at in this hemisphere.*
We stayed in a penthouse suite in the Fairmont's Heritage Place area. The place was immaculate, quiet, spacious, with a great modern kitchen. An in suite bathroom for each of three rooms, and an extra powder room.
There are beautiful pools *everywhere*, never crowded. The beach is maybe a 15 minute walk or 5 minute bike ride away.
The bikes are well maintained, but single speed, so I had to adjust the seat height to get enough leverage (as a 70 year old) to go up the slight hills.
The grounds are beautiful, with interesting wildlife. You can take a boat ride around Mayakoba and see the whole area.
The staff is incredibly helpful and can arrange anything you want to do, either in Mayakoba or nearly Playa del Carmen.
Definitely a rare experience.
(1) The Four Seasons Hoi An in Viet Nam is probably still number one ever, but that's an impossible bar to exceed.
