The 170-year-old building is beautiful and full of character, with lots of hidden nooks and crannies to explore and a lovely function room for weddings. The recently renovated restaurant / breakfast room feels quite luxurious.
The hotel is in a fantastic location, just a short walk from the harbour. Our room was incredibly quiet despite being right in the middle of the hustle and bustle. The room and bathroom were spacious, recently renovated and very comfortable, with air conditioning that was an absolute lifesaver during the 35+ degree heatwave.
The spa was super disappointing. Located underground in the former bank vaults, it felt small, dark, dingy, cramped and steamy rather than relaxing.
Some of the communal areas could do with some attention. The carpets were quite dirty, and the corridors and staircases felt noticeably more tired than the renovated parts of the hotel.
