Second stay at this hotel. The first visit was wonderful, this one ... the room seemed run down, and there was no heat, space heater and the quick start fire logs that were offered were no help. It made the evening very uncomfortable.

This hotel needs some love. It was okay but nothing special (even though it should be, given its historic nature.) I did hear that they are going to close for a year for renovations starting in July.
The main hotel lobby is beautiful and original, but dusty/could use a good cleaning (floors, furniture). The hotel is actually several different buildings so I can't speak to the quality of the rooms in the main building. Our room in a building a block up was just ok. It could use fresh paint, a new mattress and new bedding (one thin blanket and two flat pillows). It was clean enough (it didn't give me the willies) but really in need of updating/refreshing. We didn't pay a lot for two nights so that helped make up for it.
The hotel could be a real gem, I imagine the pandemic was probably not very good for business. I hope they can bring it back to life!

Awesome place we have stayed many times. Had an awesome view room to watch the sun rise & set. Beautiful

My only complaint was that online information was not accurate. They need to update. The restaurant and bar are closed. They do not provide a towel change and room cleaning during your stay unless you ask for it.

Facility looks old and there's piling paint at the door and lock to the patio doesn't look secure. It's not child friendly either as noise cancelation is critical for a good night sleep. This impacted our stay and we decided to shorten our stay to 1 night

The guest cottage I stayed in was rough. The property overall is not maintained well and shows its age. The room was poor quality overall, particularly the bathroom. The location is excellent and in the center of the small town. The front desk service was friendly. The room was not serviced, which I was told at check in. If you have no other option for a night or two, this will do the job. I would not stay here as a tourist, unless you have very low standards.

Fun place. Great staff.

Great old place; so quaint and comfy. Like a good old B&B, rather than an airbnb. And the location is world class and glorious. We loved staying there!!

Attractive town of Mendocino.

We were disappointed that we weren’t made aware that there was no longer a restaurant / bar open on site. The young man that checked us was very courteous and kind to us. He made us feel welcome. The bed was very comfortable and the room was clean. It was sad to see a once beautiful hotel almost shut down. Probably won’t stay there again until up and running full scale again.

The “garden suites” are musty and a bit slummy. The hotel itself is still OK. They no longer have a restaurant. Certainly not at the level they were at a decade ago.

Staff was friendly, attentive and helpful. We had a noisy toddler in the room above us, interfering with our sleep and the desk manager quickly had us moved to another room. The location right on Main street is great for views of the ocean and an easy walk to restaurants and shops. It's a grand historic building with fine architectural details if that's your thing too.

A great, historical, stay in a beautiful, historical town.

Wonderful victorian original room, room was all clean with all expected amentities. Best price in the area in my humble opinion, and within a short walk from the majority of the sights and food to see in town.

I loved the historic nature of this hotel. Everything from ultra high ceilings to narrow hallways and the design and decor of this historic place was interesting. I also enjoyed the fact that there were no TV in the room! Just a perfect place for rest and relaxation. The loation is as good as it can get as it is a stone throe from the headland trail and the ocean views.

Love that the wood work is original. Wall paper definitely seems original. Beds are decent and linens and pillows are nice. Love the balcony that is across from ocean. Excellent location and great coffee.

Historic and electric hotel in beautiful Mendocino with stunning views. A little old and a little funky, but that's its charm.
We've stayed numerous times over the years and always enjoy the staff and our stays there.

This hotel was miserable to stay in. People were fine. Facilities uncomfortable, 2 shared bathrooms for an entire floor. Window in room opened to a brick wall with zero air flow. The energy was heavy and deathly!

Restaurant/ have been closed since 2020 which is not mentioned online and was a disappointment. One of the porch access doors couldn't be locked.

Quaint, historical a lovely place to spend a night en route to our destination.

Charming decor and helpful friendly people. Bathroom floor needs repair, some tiles were coming up. Otherwise it was perfect!

Hotel has fallen on hard times. Not being kept up at all. Rotten wood in window and doors.. Carpeting pulled away from threshold. Smelled moldy. Would give it a miss next time.

Perfect. Restaurants and Shops nearby. Coastal Trail across hotel. Very nice rooms. We did not use the restaurant.

Wonderful historic hotel with small rooms, very close into town. Dog friendly which was a major plus. Bar next door is awesome

This place is historic and amazing. No point staying anywhere else.

Just a delightful 1878 hotel featuring executive woodwork, real furniture made from mahogany. A door from our room opened onto a second floor balcony overlooking the ocean(Pacific). You could here the waves crashing from the bed . Just delightful every moment. I liked it!

Shower was four foot height, too low to wash hair

Mendocino hotel is a bit run down and neglected. The good news is it recently sold and the location can't be beat. As of 9/23 it's about to be upgraded.

For what we paid, what we got was pretty average to below average in my opinion because I've paid similar prices for better rooms before. Bed was uncomfortable and room was very small, barely able to move around the room without tripping over luggage or furniture.

Wine tasting & cheese plate at the winery up the next street, saloon NEXT DOOR with fun waitresses and local fish dinner, plus local beers and advice on them (hops grown in Hopland down the coast highway!) I will never stay anywhere else and told all my pals to only stay here, the far out Victorian feel dates from the Gold Rush (& Civil War, can you imagine?) wallpaper patterns and all that.
The general Mendo vibe is this outlaw soul of the super dangerous timber industry and the modern pot industry, so way out west! Walk on the wooden boardwalk both directions (all Main Street) at different times of day for the sea caves and channels and seals and all the seabirds, also way out to the bluff, Emmy Lou Packard the genius artist and beatnik Commie, who did such great fantastic block prints of Mendocino that art will probably never be matched, also got the bluffs preserved as a public park, otherwise, they'd probably be covered with McMansions now, yuck! It's super good luck Mendo didn't turn into another Portland, it's gotten more suburbanified but something about it refused to be turned into another L.A., go visit and even take your frailer friends, it is that fun and safe and doable, they'll remember it for ever. There are beaches and the coast range to be hiked nearby and Mendocino has art museums, the art school, a used bookstore and the volunteer fire dept and old Chinese temple and Russian River comes out there for kayaks & freshwater swimming, what more could you want?

A pleasure staying in town and being able to walk around

Hotel needs some R&M. But great staff and location

The condition of the room itself was disappointing given the room rate as high as it was. The doors and windows need to be painted. and the drapes were torn. The view of the ocean was fantastic. The restaurant and bar were closed unfortunately so there was nothing to eat at the hotel. There was no maid service.
